Bane

Posted by · 11:40 am · May 20th, 2011

Since a reader already tried to veer off-topic in another thread with this, I might as well get it out of the way. A shot of Tom Hardy as Bane from “The Dark Knight Rises,” revealed through viral marketing that will no doubt be as annoying (if not more so) as it was during the run-up to “The Dark Knight.” The official press release announcing the beginning of shooting went out yesterday, cuing hit-grabbing on every morsel of “information” that will find its way out of the set. Hope you’re all geared up for iPhone videos of production and blurry shots of Gotham police department logos out the Yin Yang!

No offense taken, just like to keep things on track in posts, per our commenting quasi-policy thing.

I’m surprised they’ve already shown something this early on in the production. Didn’t it just start filming a week or two ago?

The most unbearably annoying thing about TDKR is surely gonna be the mass epidemic of orgiastic masturbation that will break out salivating over Nolan and dry-humping ever little thing about the movie until even those who like the movie will be reduced to saying, “you know what, fuck you and fuck your movie”.

It sorta reminds me of the character design used for the ongoing online Mortal Kombat: Legacy series. It’s very clean and straight forward, but also somewhat minimalistic overall considering the character’s backgrounds and stylings. Surely they’ll make him far rougher on the edges in the movie.

Can’t wait for more news from it, and the movie itself of course.

@Chris138 First official pic of Heath as Joker was released 5 / 21 / 07

@Kris… I’ve been following you for so many years now to know not to expect rampant enthusiasm from you in matters where rampant enthusiasm seem to be the de-facto response… especially in matters where fanboys are concerned. But I’ve also followed you long enough to know that you are one of a handful of people I “know” whose enthusiasm for The Bat matches my own…. so I do find it a little strange that both here and on twitter you opted to address how awful and agonizing the pending viral marketing for the film will be… while not offering your thoughts on the pic at all. I mean, I am not crying foul as a fanboy over the fact that you haven’t used the written word to jizz all over the internet at the reveal of Bane… but as a fan of the source, I would think you would at least offer a morsel of your opinion on it?

ha… and in writing that I realize I did not offer my own opinon.. then again… what lowly old me thinks registers far lower on the “interesting spectrum” to visitors of this site than what you have to say I’m sure…

    I dig it.

Yeah, I like it, though I’m still how they will work with the venom. And on the viral marketing: although the blogging and hype will be unbearable, I always thought the games were a little fun.

The rewards were always worth it. As a political science major the Elect Harvey Dent stickers were a blast.

I’m sure the games are fun for the two or three people who figure it out obsessively first. For the rest of us, it’s simply reported as a news story, with an asinine background.

And driving business is surely not a by-product, given that the base is such a minuscule percentage of overall interest.

I enjoyed TDK’s viral marketing. It should be easy enough to ignore it if you find it annoying.

Bane is not known the the casual filmgoer. This is a nice start of the viral campaign for fans of the comics and/or the films, but I’m guessing they’ll hold off on showing Hathaway’s look in TDKR, just as they did with vague and blurry teasers of Ledger’s look before they revealed it, and when they do reveal her look, the internet will literally explode, literally.

Hardy looks great. It’ll be interesting to see how they incorporate the venom drug.

Looks slightly cheesy to me. I haven’t seen MK: Legacy (which someone else mentioned) but I did get a kind of “web series” version of Bane vibe to it, and actually it reminded me of Lex Luthor from last week’s Smallville finale, just very bulked up.

But one dark, partial image of Bane won’t give a sense of how he will look on film, and ultimately, as much attention is placed on the look of the characters in movies like this, that is not what determines the film’s quality.

Nice. I like what I see so far. Its funny when the announce what characters are gonna be in the film you wonder how they will pull it off in terms and they do. At least so I like the look. We will see how they approach the character.

Right now, I just really hope this film is as good as, if not better than ‘The Dark Knight’.

This time Bane will be scary as fuck! Unlike funny as fuck- like he was in the atrocious shit fest known as Batman & Robin. Nolan rocks!
