Be truthful

Hate to spoil the one that gave me the biggest laugh (full version after the jump), but it’s applicable here. I think the “X-Men: First Class” is probably my favorite, though. More at The Shiznit.

The one for ‘The Beaver’ got me to do a spit-take.

Too bad the Oscar thing won´t happen.

To be honest, very little about Tree of Life’s poster screams “Oscar!” to me. I know it has to do with the movie itself more than the actual poster, but, context is everything when it comes to things jokes like that.

One more thing: I may be in minority on this I’m not really sure that allowing people to vote on comments is such a good addition to the site. To put it bluntly, it just seems to cheapen the whole process of commenting – if you are not sure what I’m talking about just look at it did to YouTube. I that when people like or dislike a particular comment – they make their own a comment. Otherwise, you may have too many “witty” one-liners vying for the highest ratings as opposed to constructive conversation additions.

I’ve seen it work well for other sites. We’ll try it out. I think we have a much more mature general readership than YouTube, surely. The point is to encourage good points above witty one liners, so we just see the potential as different. And at the end of the day, if you just want to give a thumbs up to someone’s point rather than post as much, you should be able to.

Meanwhile, I’ve given your comment a thumbs down, just to be prickish. ;)

Kris, on the +1/ -1 thing: can you see who has voted +1 or -1 on any given comment?

  6. Kristopher Tapley Avatar

No. It’s pretty basic. The only other functionality is that when a comment gets to a pre-determined number of negative votes, it is collapsed.

Pretty nifty, if I say so, myself (particularly the last part).

The only issue I have with this rating add-on is that the username’s font above each post is awfully small now. If its original size could be brought back, it’d be perfect.

Ontopic: I don’t think this is Dreamworks’s “best chance in years to win an Oscar” given that they’re releasing Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots. Not that I think they might underwhelm or anything, but since Pixar has been dominating the animated feature award, wouldn’t this mean that if this year’s winner isn’t a Pixar movie then it shouldn’t be the most Pixaresque one?

It’d be odd if the voters who kept awarding Pixar’s formula, stories and values for so many years would suddenly shift their applause towards the average (term used loosely, btw) pop-culture-loving talking animals movie like Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, or for that matter, Rango or Rio. Cars 2 might be an unwanted sequel, but it’s Pixar work, so it could be frontrunner by familiarity.

I think that for Dreamworks to win, they should knock it out of the park, HTTYD-style, with their releases for this year. Or at least everything else that gets released should be easily forgettable. Whichever works to make Dreamworks stand out alone.

Yeah I agree with the bigger name thing

Andrej/Rashad: Really? No change on my end, using Firefox. Hm.

Ah, now I see it in Safari and Chrome. That might be a problem.

I agree Andre that Pixar shouldn’t be counted out just yet, though I don’t think that it will be in the BP race. If another movie does beat it in the Animated category, the only one I could see is Rango. Unless Tintin is eligible (not sure why in wouldn’t seeing as it is all animated), which I could defiantly see as winning that category.

Gonna nix it for now (the rating thing). Especially since I can already tell juveniles are delighting in clicking a thumbs down for literally no reason whatsoever.

    Right :)

Andrew M: The only way I could see Rango winning Best Animated Feature is if the award itself is meant to celebrate the technical and creative merits of the movie (which are amazing) over its story and characters (which are lacking). But I don’t know about this, they didn’t like Avatar and Inception over The Hurt Locker and The King’s Speech.

Inception had just as much story as The King’s Speech.
