James Franco takes on Cher

If you’re still sore about Cher and Diane Warren being denied a place on Oscar night for their Golden Globe-winning effort “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” — hey, is there any rule to prevent them busking on the red carpet? — at least take comfort in the knowledge that James Franco feels your pain.

Franco’s own tuneful rendition of the power ballad appeared on his site yesterday, with the explanatory caption: “They pulled this from the Oscar show. Damn it.” Seem’s whoever’s singing it, the song just can’t catch a break.

Not only am I not sore, I think it’s one of the best decisions the Oscars made this year.

I looked up “try hard” in the dictionary and it said “JAMES FRANCO” I wonder if he is trolling the world on purpose.

Franco is pulling a Banksy here. “Pulled from the show”? Right. Exit Through the Burlesque Shop.

Ah, damnit music branch. Why couldn’t they have pulled the pretentious stick out of their old butts for once. This was going to be a classic moment. Cher was supposed to come out and interrupt him while he was dressed in Cher drag on the show and singing this song, but it got cut obviously because they snubbed it. I don’t care if you liked the film or not, the music was way better than most if not all of the songs nominated. This would have been a great bit.

Is this really true, K? More’s the pity. I’d kill to see that.

Guy- Yup they were so confident the song was going to be nominated they planned the whole routine before the nominations were even announced. Here’s the article where Bruce Vilanch, one of the show’s writers, talks about it:

One of the biggest wasted opportunities ever. Producers were probably sticking pins in their music branch dolls after that one.

See, where I get confused over the “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” omission is that why did the song voters suddenly get a case of the wobblies in nominating a quote unquote “bad movie”. And now, for once, the song was actually DONE AS A MUSICAL NUMBER and they still couldn’t nominate it?
