The press release, in part:

The Museum of Tolerance has announced its lineup of films for the first Museum of Tolerance International Film Festival (MOTIFF) taking place November 13-18, 2010 in Los Angeles…

The opening night film will be “The Way Back,” directed by six-time Academy Award® nominee Peter Weir. Inspired by Slavomir Rawicz’s acclaimed novel, The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom as well as other real life accounts, “The Way Back” is an epic story of survival, solidarity and indomitable human will chronicling the escape of a small group of multi-national prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their remarkable life affirming journey over thousands of miles across five hostile countries.

“We are proud that the Museum of Tolerance International Film Festival will open with ‘The Way Back,’ a timeless story of man’s eternal struggle for freedom,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founding Director of the MOTIFF and Founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and its acclaimed Museum of Tolerance .

The Museum of Tolerance is real? I thought that was just a South Park joke.

I’m not native and I don’t know about The Museum of Tolerance. So could you please tell me this is good news for The Way Back? After I read HE article,I’m worrying about the future of the film in the Oscar race. It’s Jeff Wells blog’s article about the film being not treated greatly by it’s distributor(Newmarket).

I’m afraid that if not having better distributor hurts the film’s chance in the Oscar race.

If you don’t mind, could you please tell me your thought about this?

    Thank you.

I learned about Museum of Tolerance from other people. And now I understand being selected as opening film for MOTIFF is definitely good promotion for the film.

By the way,Anne Thompson has now seen The Way Back. She tweeted like this:

“Loved the way back but it will be a tough row to hoe commercially. Ed harris the standout: carries the emotion.”

Really? Why couldn’t she just talk more about how she loved it? Wasted half the post blathering about commercial prospects. THIS IS WHY I DO NOT LIKE ANNE THOMPSON.
