In Contention

Baldwin on Letterman

Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 11:14 am · December 30th, 2009

This is from the holiday episode, which aired 12/23.  Early in the interview they touch on the Oscar hosting gig and later, of course, there’s “It’s Complicated” talk.  And a great story mid-way through about when Baldwin met Burt Lancaster in an elevator.  Hilarious stuff.  Here’s part one, part two after the jump.

If you want to check out the full episode, which includes Jay Thomas’s annual Lone Ranger story and Darlene Love singing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” another tradition, click here.

Baldwin’s great. Too bad Tina Fey isn’t his co-host on Oscar night, but Steve Marin ain’t bad.

I just finished reading Eric Jager’s “The Last Duel,” which is being developed for Martin Scorsese. I kept picturing Baldwin as Jacques Le Gris, a man who is accused of raping his best friend’s wife during the Middle Ages. Let the duel begin. Get to it Marty.

I’m sorry this is off topic, but I just got back from “Crazy Heart,” which I liked very much by the way. But WHY oh WHY is Maggie Gyllenhaal not even in the conversation for Best Supporting Actress? She’s absolutely amazing here and matches Bridges note for note. I’d place her right below Mo’Nique as best of the year, easily.

I think having her in lead for a while held up the rush.

I thought so. But what an utter shame. Think she has the possibility of maaaaybe becoming a surprise nominee?
