Rodrigo Perez at The Playlist, amid reporting concerning a delayed release, notes the short film “We Were Once a Fairytale” from director Spike Jonze “attempts to lampoon Kanye West’s arrogance by evincing more self-conceit and self-deprecation with a bizarre, hallucinatory ending that features a small demon-like furry rodent and a form of seppuku.”  This is actually the first I’ve heard about it and, with “Where the Wild Things Are” moving into theaters over the weekend, it’s probably worth passing along.

Here’s part one.  Part two after the jump:

It’s definitely a solid depiction of what the song “See You In My Nightmares” is like–getting hammered after a painful break-up, leaving you in a drunken haze where your id runs free, and you’re suddenly “that guy” that everyone hates to be around. In this nightmare, you are your own worst enemy.

On a technical level, I had some trouble hearing a lot of it because of the way the sound was mixed, but I can only assume it was intentional. Now, I couldn’t begin to tell you what that shit with the little goblin thing was, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t strangely moving. And Kanye does a great job in it. I dig.
