‘The Vintner’s Luck’ trailer

“The Vintner’s Luck,” from “Whale Rider” director Niki Caro, is one of a number of under-the-radar titles we’ve had our eyes on in the Contenders section since February.  The film is described as concerning “an ambitious young peasant winemaker and his lifelong relationship with an angel as together they grapple with the sensual, the sacred and the profane in search of the perfect vintage.”  Alrighty.  It stars Vera Farmiga and 2002 best Actress nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes, and this being “the year of the woman,” as Guy has pointed out in the past, it’s worth passing along (thanks to reader Adam):

looks a little slow, but nice

The book is beautiful and lyrical, but it seems they’ve either taken out much of the homoerotic element or are just not showing it in the trailer

Based on my schedule, I may try to catch this at tiff in September.

Thanks to Adam for passing it along. There, all better? Apologies, was on the run.

Haha. It’s okay. It’s just always nice to give credit to the source. You of all people should know that, but you are the captain of your soul :P

Love Farmiga and Renier, but this looks awfully creaky. That said, anything Caro makes now can only be an improvement on “North Country.”

Yes! Yes! Yes! I am so happy this film was even mentioned on this website, much less have the trailer on it. I am so looking forward to this movie and I hope that some of you lucky people that get to attend TIFF will be so kind to give us a full report of the film after it is shown.

With that said, I will admit this film looks a lot more conventional than the book. I am remaining hopeful that this trailer is an attempt to make the film seem more marketable to appear to be a period piece love triangle of some kind when really the book is NOT about that AT ALL. I will be very upset if this film turns out to be another mediocre adaptation of an amazing novel (I am thinking of The Informers or Blindness as recent examples). I hope its not b/c I like Niki Caro and that cast is unbelievably awesome but that trailer is not what I had in mind at all…
