Where is the poster creativity these days? This, the ghastly “Funny People” one-sheet, the rather uninspired “An Education” art work, I can’t take it anymore:
Funny, it wasn’t a formal poster, but I’m sure that for Cannes they used a variation of the beautiful Cornish/bluebells still that was much more striking. Sigh.
The Dude
I’ll agree that the Funny People poster was awful. This one’s not BAD (just boring), but I actually liked the An Education poster.
Xavi Rodriguez
Normally I love Campion’s poster films (“The Piano” and “The Portrair of a Lady” especially), but this is a little bit boring. I hope this isn’t the only poster
Brian
I am pretty indifferent to all three of the posters. I actually think the Funny People one has some charm in it’s simplicity.
It’s just hard to get angry over posters like this when there are posters like THE BOX floating out there.
I don’t think it’s been a bad year for posters, especially in a year where that crazy black and white Star Trek poster got plastered on every billboard.
Speaking English
Nothing at all original, but it’s done very well. That typeface is gorgeous.
On another note… this is rated PG?!
AmericanRequiem
how the hell is this so good at PG I wonder, hmm
Bryan
Don’t joke PG; it’s PG-13 that always has me squirming.
I agree with Speaking English on this poster. Not original, but not bad either. I actually think it’s quite sexy. And that typeface *is* gorgeous.
Didn’t like the poster for Funny People AT ALL. But I do like the one for An Education. In fact I can’t stop thinking about it for some reason.
But like others said: 500 Days of Summer, Where the Wild Things Are. Awesome.
Ryan Griffin
All the goodness was used up last year with every The Dark Knight poster that was put out. Unfortunately, this used up the quota for every marketing department, so we’ll be seeing a lot of crappy photos of characters for the next few years :(
S Kane
Yeah the ones as of late are very lame…especially Whatever Works. That is lazier than any of them.
Are they trying to disguise it being a period drama? I like some of the colours and the way it doesn’t look so washed out and bland in THAT regard like so many others, but it is quite uninspiring.

The Basterds and 500 Days of Summer posters have been pretty good…
Diamonds are always in the rough (though the domestic Basterds stuff is pretty lame, I think).
Agreed, the international ones are where it is at.
precious and where the wild things are are great. but this, blehh
Cool I love the colors to it, the picture is cliche but at least it isn’t that faded look they jump out at you.

I like it! That is the best part of a kiss.
I agree, but I’m not sure that “the best part of a kiss” is what this film is about.
