In case it doesn’t get said often enough, the internet is a weird thing. One week ago, I had never heard of “Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus,” which was recently released straight to DVD. (A technicality that sadly bars it from Oscar consideration.) Since then, however, I’ve seen references to this marvel pop up on any number of my favorite blogs, while at least ten unconnected friends have emailed me the trailer, usually accompanied by a heavily capitalised and punctuated “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS??!!”
Of course, it’s the same kind of marketing genius that propelled “Snakes on a Plane,” except this looks sincerely craptastic rather than wrapping itself in joyless quotation marks. Plus, Lorenzo Lamas + Debbie Gibson > Samuel L. Jackson. Duh. So have you seen this? Not the trailer, I mean, but the actual movie. Is it as good as it looks? Is that even possible? Your thoughts, please.

Hahahah!! that’s hilarious, literally the most ludicrous thing i’ve ever seen (shark jumping to airplane height).
My god, Lorenzo Lamas. Freaking Renegade man!
What a cheese fest :D
Wow that looks fantastic…
Kris it isnt Debbie anymore, it is now Deborah.
Sadly the effects in the trailer look better than those in both Wolverine and Angels & Demons.
Slumdog Millionaire was originally supposed to go straight to DVD here, and look how that ended up. This could have been the next Slumdog Millionaire!
I heard this was just a joke trailer…..?? Or does the DVD actually exist?
Mike: Guy wrote the post, not me. FYI.
Anyway, The Asylum is notorious for this kind of thing. When one film comes out, they are on it with their own spin. “Transmorphers” followed “Transformers,” “Snakes on a Train” followed “Snakes on a Plane,” etc. This seems to be a wholly original creation, though. Yikes.
My friend saw this!!!!! It’s real!!!! I have yet to ask him how it was but I talked to him before he watched it. I want to see it…..I know it will be bad but I am really curious just how bad
