I guess I should have specified the answers as well. Personally I’m most looking forward to Angels & Demons or Public Enemies (does that count), but to miss out Terminator as well.
But thanks for using my suggestion.
Oh shit, Terminator. Totally forgot to include that one…
Alright, it’s there now.
I don’t think Public Enemies qualifies as an upcoming “blockbuster,” though I guess a case could be made for Angels & Demons.
Thanks Kris.
I chose “other” because there was no button for “none”. This summer looks seriously grim. Bruno is the only studio film that’s guaranteed my $10
Kind of with Chad here — there’s not a single title here that has me excited. My default answer would be “Up,” but I really didn’t like that trailer.
Star Trek. I’m a Trekkie, I am proud of it. Now ridicule me.
Angels & Demons has the potential to be the most enjoyable blockbuster. Up will be one of the year’s finest films but I wouldn’t call it a blockbuster. I’d even dare to say it’ll be Pixar’s lowest grossing film to date but also one of their finest.
Star Trek
is that even a question? harry potter. it’s cliche but still an obvious answer to me.
It is a sad bunch this year. But Jim Broadbent is in Harry Potter. That alone qualifies it as a masterpiece.
You don’t think Public Enemies will be a blockbuster success? A movie starring the stars of two of the highest grossing films of the decade/all time? Public Enemies will make more money than:
G.I. Joe, Night at the Museum, Taking of Pelham 123, Up, and maybe Terminator and Wolverine.
There’s a lot of crap coming out:
GI Joe – Stephen Sommers
Night at the Museum 2 – Shaun Levy
Wolverine – trailers look bad
Pelham 123 – not very inspired
Star Trek – could be good
Terminator – McG is worrying but the trailers have been decent. Hopefully Sam Worthington will neutralize the presence of Christian Bale.
Angels and Demons – Da Vinci Code was awful but the novel makes for an excellent thriller.
Harry Potter – looks excellent (could end up being very dark)
Bruno – obviously funny but looks a bit like Borat 2.0
Up – looks good but I’m not dying to see it.
JAB: Probably won’t even hit $100 million (not that I’m a box office wizard — Chad?). And even if it did, that wouldn’t qualify it as a “blockbuster” in my mind. Not in the classic sense, which is what I’m referring to.
Public Enemies will hit more than $150 million at the end of the year and yes it is a blockbuster movie. More potential blockbuster movie than movies like GI Joe, Night at the Museum 2, Wolverine or Pelham 123 .
I voted for Terminator but my most anticipated for the rest of the year is Inglorious Basterds – August 21th.
“More potential blockbuster movie than movies like GI Joe, Night at the Museum 2, Wolverine or Pelham 123 .”
I get the feeling some folks don’t get the term’s meaning, but whatever.
I don’t think Pelham 123 qualifies as a blockbuster… is Sony/Columbia really thinking that is a Summer tent-pole? I know they have Angels and Demons in May which I can see as their big blockbuster/tent-pole… I guess they will make Pelham 123 seem like it is so they have a flick in a “J” month since they moved 2012 to the fall.
