Minus the banal yammering of Mary Hart smothering it all.
Still pretty, still powerful, still promising. DiCaprio looks particularly good here, I think.

I think so too. Winslet looks great too. Lovely cinematography too.
Jesus…that looks incredible…and the Oscars (note plural) go to….
Yes, indeed, it looks very powerful.
People predicting Benjamin Button and Australia over this in the Best Picture category are confusing me. This is much more Oscar friendly, and in my opinion, inifintely more promising.
The team behind this would not have ventured into this project without a killer script either, that’s why I have utmost confidence that this will go down well. The book is too powerful to mishandle.
Also, check the scene in which Winslet drinks the orange juice with a shakey hand. If you’ve read the book you’ll know the back-story to it; I think that’s a clear Oscar clip if ever I saw one!
Sorry, looks bland and smell box office doom for this venture. DiCaprio will get all the attention in BODY O F LIES and Winslet for THE READER.
God, this looks depressing!
I feel like DiCaprio looks young for the part, even though in actuality he isn’t. It’s a probably he struggles with constantly, I feel, but it reallys ticks out to me here.
I think the youthfulness works for the role, given that it’s a story about people struggling to come to terms with their own adulthood.
Sean: Yeah, hardly a barrel of laughs, but there’s no way round that. I doubt DiCaprio will get much attention for Body of Lies — it’s this or nothing, methinks.
I think DiCaprio is miscast altogether, and although I do love Winslet, this reunion is a bit too gimmicky for my taste–an aspect that is only exasperated by the fact that Revolutionary Road is one of my favorite novels.
Prenotions aside, I think the trailer looks promising.
I’m starting to think Kate and Leo are the ones to beat for Actress and Actor.
DiCaprio doesn’t look young to me anymore, probably because of that huge groove between his eyebrows that looks like it was carved there from habitual bad-tempered pique. Yet he doesn’t come across as mature, just whiney. For me, he’s not living up to his early potential. But with Kate in the movie, it will have depth. Maybe it’ll be great, but the trailer didn’t impress me much, except for the technicals.
This looks intriguing to me. If you’ve read the book, it’s really Frank Wheeler’s story and I can’t think of anyone better to tell it than Leonardo DiCaprio. He really looks amazing here (not that he hasn’t consistently turned in fantastic performances over the years in everything he’s done). I don’t think it’s gimmicky to have Leo and Kate back together at all – they are friends. Sam Mendes is Kate’s husband – they probably wanted to work amongst people they like to be around. It’s a great pairing and these performances look absolutely brilliant. I love the song they played in the trailer – that haunting Nina Simone. Oh, I just cannot wait for this movie!
I wouldn’t exactly say RR is Frank Wheeler’s story; the novel is written in an omniscient point of view, and the narrator equally deals with the downfall/setbacks/issues of both husband and wife (whether it’s each character against themself, society, or each other) in their quixotic pursuits of the American Dream. April’s role in the story is every much as important as Frank’s, and essentially, the outcome of her character is the definitive act that draws the story to a close. On the other hand, I haven’t read the adapted screenplay, so her role in overall story could’ve been altered.
And by gimmicky, I’m sort of viewing it through the promotional (economic? duh) standpoint. Obviously the reunion of Kate and Leo will draw attention, but I personally feel it’s the wrong form; the movie will probably be marginalized as “the movie THEY reunited”–something not befitting of a great novel.
Then again, most movie adaptations fail this task in general, so… yeah.
DiCaprio is 5 years older than Frank Wheeler is written as.
As for it being bogged down by the “movie THEY reunited on” factor, I think this actually won’t be as much a problem as I worried. I feared this trailer would cut around the fact that it’s about a miserable married couple and just show tantalizing glimpses of the two together, but it seems they’re being pretty upfront about the subject matter.
O-V-E-R R-A-T-E-D!
Isn’t it a bit difficult to call something overrated when no one’s seen it yet?
Is that a Nina Simone song they play in the trailer? Wow… It made it just perfect for me… It just all add up to be a great movie =)
Yep, it’s Simone’s interpretation of “Wild is the Wind.” One of the most beautiful songs ever wtitten — David Bowie’s version is ace too.
O-V-E-R-H-Y-P-E-D !
Dreamgirls 2.0!
C.W.W. Part Deux!
Sweeney Todd Encore!
DiCaprio looks 29/30. Which is the age of Frank. He also looks damn phenomenal in the trailer! Winslet does nothing for me, though. ..
obviously they’re a complimentary couple, after the successful work they’ve done. and with the hype this new movie has gotten, i think winslet and leo go well together.
