There were 183 seconds that got a lot of fanboys excited yesterday, (insert dirty joke here), and we might as well get into it in this space. Yes, the trailer for Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” landed a solid punch when it dropped during CinemaCon and then hit the net immediately after. To say the least, it had some impressive stuff to offer.
I guess we should talk about that 'Man of Steel' trailer

They’ve finally secured a progressive track, reports Deadline, with Tim Burton set to direct and The Weinstein Company closing a deal to fund and distribute. Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams, fresh off awards attention in the Weinstein-distributed “Django Unchained” and “The Master,” will star.

Off the Carpet: Academy members have numerous tight races to mull over this season
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 7:58 am · December 24th, 2012
As members of the Academy hurry through the last screeners they need to see before committing an opinion on the year’s best (for those who bother trying to get as deep into the stack as possible, that is), a number of races hang in the balance as extremely tight categories are sure to leave a few contenders feeling the sting of “also-ran” on Thursday, January 10.

'Tinker, Tailor' dominates biennial International Online Film Critics' Poll
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 9:41 am · December 21st, 2012
Here’s something novel. A biennial awards presentation. The eligibility period for the International Online Film Critics’ Poll is November 16, 2010 to November 15, 2012, leaving a wide array of films to choose from. Pity, then, that the critics’ choices aren’t themselves as varied. Tomas Alfredson’s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” won five awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.

Off the Carpet: Ballots are out
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 6:00 am · December 17th, 2012
Normally this column would begin with something like, “Ballots have been mailed to Oscar voters today,” but that begs reminding that for the first time ever, the Academy has adopted an electronic voting system in addition to paper ballots (for those who request them). How will that change the course of the season? Is chatter about glitches and lack of understanding just a facile talking point blown out of proportion? Maybe. But what is tangible in all of this is the landscape as a result of the first major nominations announcements of the season.

Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master”and David O.Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook.” With Venice, Telluride and Toronto in the rear view, those are the three films with the early stranglehold on the 2012-2013 Oscar season.

'Trouble with the Curve' trailer adds Clint Eastwood to the Best Actor race
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 4:43 pm · August 7th, 2012
So it turns out Clint Eastwood was just kidding when he indicated that “Gran Torino” would be his final on-screen work. A solid Best Actor push from Warner Bros. that year didn’t yield pay dirt, but it got the conversation chugging that the studio is sure to use again this year: He may have four Oscars, but he’s never won for acting.
