Don't expect "Dreamgirls" talk next week...

dreamart.jpg

Not around these parts, anyway. I won't be attending next Wednesday's screening of the film at the Academy because, well, Wednesday is my birthday, and the Oscar race can be put on hold for a few days. Sue me. And I'd rather not experience the anxiety of tracking down Paramount/Dreamworks for a screening schedule on "Dreamgirls" (and specifically an invite to this particular event...I've heard zip so far) with the same amount of effort I've had to put into the studio on other films this year. Too much effort.

It makes no sense why they lag behind the times and remain at arm's length from the internet, and certainly with the awards-coverage faction of that medium, but that's a whole drawn out, bloody conversation

On "Dreamgirls," basically...I can wait. You'll have plenty to tide you over in the interim, but I won't be tossing another mundane voice into the fray on this one. I'll be welcoming 25 with a stiff Jameson and the antics of Lady Sovereign at the El Rey instead.

Enjoy the weekend.

Excellent entry, Kris.

I too, am worn out from all the Dreamgirls hype, and I do want to see the film on Christmas, but for just a little while, I'd like to hear nothing about the film.

I just don't understand what all the hype is all about with Dreamgirls. It annoys me when a film studio tries too hard to win the Oscar. The days of big studios winning the Oscar is OVER. This year, I'm predicting Little Miss Sunshine to win the big prize. This is a wonderful gem of a film and it stands heads and shoulders or even better than all the pretencious garbage from the big movie studios.

hey kris!

lemme just say that, though I usually don't see eye to eye with you, this year we're on the EXACT same page...

lemme ask you something... do you see Dreamgirls taking the big prize home or do you think it will be a letdown and/or suffer an upset?

bye, mate!

I still think Dreamgirls will take the big prize. Nothing else seems to have that across the board potential.

I'm glad somebody else said it - the hype is just obnoxious on this film. I do love Bill Condon though and he was disgracefully overlooked on Kinsey so maybe Dreamgirls with its "across the board" appeal will give this director his just due. Though I cannot see him winning even if the picture does. I think it will be a picture/director split this year.
