Will the use of the original James Bond theme on 'Skyfall' disqualify Adele's original song hopeful?

Posted by · 12:42 pm · October 4th, 2012

One of the cooler elements of Adele’s new Bond song is that it incorporates the original “Dr. No” theme that became, of course, the signature Bond melody. But while it’s a nifty nod, it also might have done the song in where Oscar is concerned.

Oscar Guide 2011: Best Music (Original Song)

Posted by · 11:34 am · February 21st, 2012

So, 39 songs were qualified for eligibility in this year’s Best Original Song race. 39. That’s one short of 40. But apparently 37 of them just weren’t good enough for the sound branch, as the category turned up two — yes, two — contenders. And one of them is dubious at best, while the other appears now to be entering a cake walk for the win.

Tech Support Interview: Bret McKenzie on his 'Muppety' additions to 'The Muppets'

Posted by · 2:24 pm · January 5th, 2012

Bret McKenzie is not a fan of musicals. Or so he says. But his (alleged) lack of interest in musical theater is somewhat ironic given that he has made his name as one half of the folk comedy duo “Flight of the Conchords” (his other half being Jemaine Clement), and that he is (in all likelihood) about to receive one, if not two, Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song.
