'Still Alice' cleans up at the Women Film Critics Circle Awards

The Women Film Critics Circle announced its winners for the year last week and we’re just now getting to them. And even though “The Homesman” led the way with nominations, it was “Still Alice” that was the big winner, taking every prize for which it was nominated.

'Philomena' and 'Before Midnight' top Women Film Critics Circle awards

After a colorful list of nominations last week (check them out here if you missed them), the Women Film Critics Circle has deemed “Philomena” the best film of 2013…about women. The film picked up two other awards as well (the only other two for which it was nominated, in fact, making it a sweeper). “Before Midnight” also scored a hat trick.

Women Film Critics Circle falls for 'Augustine,' 'Enough Said' and 'Winnie Mandela'

The Women Film Critics Circle has spoken up and, as ever, offered some interesting color in a precursor circuit that seems to be all about a few particular names. This is certainly an opinionated and thorough list of contenders. “Augustine,” “Enough Said” and “Winnie Mandela” led the way with mentions, though “Mother of George,” “Philomena” and “Hannah Arendt” were favorites as well.

Women critics like 'The Help,' 'The Iron Lady' and 'The Whistleblower'

The Women Film Critic Circle has come out in strong favor of “The Help,” “The Iron Lady” and “The Whistleblower.” The association has made selections that feel generally in line with the films and performances one would imagine ought to be be highlighted in this year’s landscape. Though I will confess their choices are seasoned with one or two surprises.
