'Gone Girl' named the year's best film by Nevada Film Critics Society

The Nevada Film Critics Society has come along and added another film to the critics/precursor Best Picture hat — David Fincher’s “Gone Girl” — bringing the number of films that have received top honors so far this year up to eight.

Nevada critics award '12 Years,' McConaughey, Streep

The Nevada Film Critics Society has hopped on the “12 Years a Slave” bandwagon, awarding the film Best Film honors (though nothing else). Meanwhile, Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity” picked up three prizes, including Best Director, while Meryl Streep landed her first prize of the year for her performance in “August: Osage County.”

Nevada critics go for 'Argo,' John Hawkes, Helen Hunt

The Nevada Film Critics Society has added one more notch to “Argo”‘s tally of Best Picture wins. The group tied Ben Affleck with “Zero Dark Thirty” helmer Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director and went in a relatively unique direction with its Best Actor call, opting for John Hawkes in “The Sessions.”

Nevada film critics tap 'Hugo,' Scorsese

The Nevada Film Critics Society has spoken and “Hugo” was the word on its collective lips. The film won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Child Actor from the group. Meanwhile, Tom Hardy received his first win of the season for his performance in “Warrior.”
