Are J. Edgar’s contradictions a mirror for the country that created him?

Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar” seems to be at odds with itself where establishing a cohesive portrait is concerned. But in so doing, does it in fact serve as a reflection of philosophical conflict within the US?

Oscarweb Round-up: Might the CLING and CLANG of 'Steel' register for sound?
