‘We Bought a Zoo’ trailer

Posted by · 11:38 am · September 14th, 2011

Just in time to capitalize on Scarlett Johansson’s nude photo scandal (that was low, sorry), the trailer for Cameron Crowe’s latest, “We Bought a Zoo,” hits the web. The first half of this early glimpse really makes it look like a return to character study form for Crowe, while the second half lays on the heavy saccharine (I winced at “I like the animals, but I love the humans”). So the proof will be in the pudding, as they say, but Matt Damon looks to be giving a solid performance here and, well, I’ll try to remain positive. The last Crowe outing frankly took a lot out of me. Check out the trailer via Apple by clicking the image below, or watch an embed after the jump.

    Slumdog’s trailer music!!!

Damon is just such a personable actor, its impossible not to like him, there’s a lot be said about being so effortlessly ingratiating. I even loved him in his bit role in Contagion.

I absolutely loathe the music choices in this trailer, but aside from that it looks like it could be a good movie. It could also be awful, but one can hope Crowe finally returns to form.

A note about the music. Usually I would hate it if I heard Sigur Ros music in a trailer, because I like the group and dislike their most famous songs being played to death in movie trailers.

However it is known that Cameron Crowe contacted Jonsi of Sigur Ros to do the score for this film so knowing that the film will have this type of music I am letting it slide.

Jonsi did good work on How to Train Your Dragon and I expect the same here.

You know, I love Matt Damon and Scar-Jo can be great but boy, how many “meaningful lines” were delivered in this trailer? And I agree with Graysmith on the music. Ouch.

But hey, it’s just a trailer. As long as Crowe Eternal Sunshined any part of his brain that came up with Elizabethtown, it should be fine.

Hmmm I don’t know. Could be good. Need to pick up Almost Famous. Such an excellent film.

This…well I’m curious. Damon’s always likable. Scarlett is…well a knockout. Very easy on the eyes.

Is it considered bad form on this blog to just say …. owwww … ick!

[and love Matt Damon, so that’s not it]

Maybe it’s because I’ve been growing with his action/comedy oriented work for a decade or so, and/or maybe it’s just because his cartoony bipolar character from 30 Rock is still fresh in my mind, but I can’t fully picture Matt Damon as a run-of-the-mill dad in a seemingly nice family movie like this. I trust the guy, though, so hopefully it’ll work out convincingly.

Is it just me, or do George Clooney (in The Descendants) and Matt Damon seem to be playing the same character?

Yeah, don’t like the trailer, but there is potential. Matt Damon could probably save it from being to cheesy, but I’m not sure yet.

Though, I have to say, Leon looks very respectable in those glasses.

Crowe was also one of the first ones to use Sigur Ros music way back in Vanilla Sky, so he gets dibs.

It looks a little too feel good, but maybe that’s just how they’re selling it.

Elizabethtown was not a great film, but I would still watch this over most RomCom’s made now-a days. It’s biggest flaw is the horrible miscasting of the lead character. Imagine this film with John Cusak and it instantly becomes a much better film.

Granted, it’s perhaps wrong of me to base this solely off of the trailer, but it seems like Damon pretty much has the market cornered on “important but incredibly boring” films what with “Hereafter”, “Invictus”, and now this new addition to his repertoire. Sure, he may throw in a “True Grit” here or there (and I’ve yet to see “Contagion”), but lately, he’s an actor that I just can’t trust to be a part of a film I’ll enjoy.

i wonder if this is a miscasting. It would have been so much better if it’s a “city slicker” type with broad comic sense and perfect timing. Hugh Grant? Not that Damon can’t be funny. Damon can be funny, but not … Paul Bart funny.

Sap quotient looks extremely high, and the scene where Damon’s character quits his job seemed awfully reminiscent of Jerry Maguire’s exit after getting fired.

That said, I’ll watch almost anything with Thomas Haden Church.

I’m calling it now- Scarlett Johansson will be the weakest part of this film. She seems so out of place in the trailer.

On a brighter note, the little girl is adorable.

OK, I just checked out the trailer now after having read all these comments.

Sap? Sure. But it also looks really genuinely sweet, actually. I am now looking forward to it. Damn me for being a push-over, I guess. But it looks up my alley (and I did not like ‘Elizabethtown, either. ugh).

I also think this has the making of a hit. Damon + farm animals. Boom.

I really liked the first half of Elizabethtown, but I agree that the casting of Orlando Bloom was a big mistake. I trust Cameron Crowe and the trailer made the movie seem a little cheesy, but we’ll see. At least it’s something different.

I don’t know if Aline Brosh McKenna as a screenwriter is a good or a bad sign… I think she did a great job in writing The Devil Wears Prada… The rest were bleh…

Hopefully both she and Crowe will deliver here…

Which is why her nudies “leaked” coincidently around the time of this movie release. We all know that celebs themselves are behind leaks so yeah, sounds about right.

Not my type of a movie at all but Matt looks great as always. Love him.

Eh, maybe. It’s baffling why this shit happens over and over but maybe you’re right. Strategic timing, that’s for sure. Either way, I’m not a fan of ScarJo and I don’t like her in this trailer one bit.
