Greg Ellwood’s article is really pointless and rubbish.

Based on the reactions, I don’t think Ides is a slam-dunk. It could still do really well, but at this point I don’t think it will get to many (if any) nominations.

Yeah Karger is the only one calling it a slam dunk at this point.

Has Dave Karger ever disliked a movie that came out between September and December?

My goodness, the inital reactions to “The Tree of Life” appeared to be pretty negative but it it’s still seen as a contender. It seems like everyone is too quick to write the movie off.

I’ll have to give “Raiders of the Lost Ark” a second try. I saw it upon first realease, and though I was a teenager–and therfore part of the target audience–I was unimpressed. The second one was slick and amusing, and of course I was very impressed by “Jaws” and “Close Encounters.” Am I a complete outlier here? Isn’t anyone else perplexed by the praise for that movie?

You are so much of an outlier that I don’t even know what to tell you. It is not a film you cannot love. Definitely rewatch it (the bigger the screen the better) and I am sure it will seat well with you. Maybe you just had an unusual mood that day. It happens.

That said, Temple of Doom will always be my favorite, too.
