First still of Sean Penn in ‘This Must Be the Place’

Or “Bigger, Better, Faster, More: The Linda Perry Story.” Paolo Sorrentino’s latest, due to compete for the Palme d’Or at Cannes next month, stars the two-time Oscar champ as a rock star turned Nazi hunter. Bernardo Bertolucci (due to receive an honorary Palme at the fest, by the by) reportedly describes the film (if not Penn’s Robert Smith wig) as “quite something.”

Looks rather stupid but it will sure as hell get Sean Penn at least an Oscar nomination. The film could still work, though.

Not sure how I feel about this film based on all I read and the few pics I have seen… interesting in finally seeing a trailer.

Well, if Robert de Niro (Jury’s President) is so friend of Sean Penn , then we can say the Best Actor award is a lock. Penn won the award in the 90s (can’t remember exactly when) for ‘She’s So Lovely’, this would be his second (a la Bardem in Venice).

There is no such thing as a “lock” when it comes to festival awards — not least with films nobody has seen yet — so any such declarations are just silly.

In any case, it’s not as if jury presidents get to determine winners independently.

Sorrentino’s Il Divo was a fantastic film, so I’m looking forward to this.

    This is Milk, the sequel.

But seriously, I took one look at that photo, and thought “What the f*** am I looking at? Is this what Sean Penn looks like on the inside or something?”

    Milk, the sequel?

It’s not based off of a doc, and it’s not even close to the same character portrayal.
