A little difficult not to be totally envious of Melena Ryzik’s recent trip to Trent Reznor’s crib/studio to talk “The Social Network” with the Nine Inch Nails front man and his composing partner, Atticus Ross:

He and Ross wrote a beautiful score, and they deserve the nomination they received. I am hoping, however, that John Powell’s brilliant and under-appreciated score for How to Train Your Dragon wins the Oscar.

Original score is actually a great category this year: even if the worst of Desplat’s three eligible scores made it in over the likes of Daft Punk, I still found myself quite enjoying it as I watched TKS. A Social Network win would be extremely cool, though. NiN, an Oscar winner?

I’m still pulling for Hans Zimmer here, though. The music cues were absolutely vital to the film in a way much moreso than the other scores in contention, and there is no denying the cultural impact of BBBRRAAAAAAAWWWWMMM BRAAAAAAWWWWWMMMM, I daresay on par with “Married Life”.

Speaking of which, did the IFMC ever announce their nominees? I always look forward to seeing their picks for Best Musical Selection/Piece/Cue or whatever. Concerto to Hell was a great pick last year.

There’s no denying the cultural impact of Justin Bieber either.

You can make a perfectly fine case for Zimmer to win this one, but BBRRAAWWMM? Not a good one.
