Jon Stewart offers hosting advice to James Franco

From last night’s “Daily Show.”  He refused to skip poetry class at Yale to be available for interviews in New York.  Love this guy:

ABC’s promo pics of Franco and co-host Anne Hathaway after the jump.

Is there anybody still unsure about Anne Hathaway pulling off Selina Kyle’s sexiness in “The Dark Knight Rises”? Because they shouldn’t be.

There’s no way this year’s Oscars can be any sloppier than last year’s. I’m optimistic, esp. since I think Hugh Jackman’s year was probably one of the best in recent memory.

Duncan: I don’t think anyone was ever concerned about “sexiness.”

Kris: True that. She was sexy as hell in “Havoc”.

I know it would be a huge upset at this point, but I would LOVE to see James win the Oscar. I don’t think anybody can deny that he gave a totally deserving tour-de-force for the ages. That train of thought has led me to wonder, with Firth’s total stronghold in that category, who does everyone think is in the #2? I could see a valid argument many ways.

You know, having just reminisced about Oscars past by watching old Billy and Whoopi openings on YouTube, I really hope these two return to form a bit with an all-out montage/musical number. I mean, what made those two fun in their years as host was their lack of self-awareness. I mean, Billy was willing to strip down time and again for a laugh – we need people with no shame to host the Oscars! :)

I used to think that James Franco looked completely high in every interview/appearance, but after his THR roundtable statements and various comments on his schedule (i.e. leaving for New Haven at 5 am for class), I now think dude is just effing tired all the time.

Of course, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Still kinda shocked they didn’t nominate “127 Hours” for its cinematography or sound design.

That James Franco is a nerd just makes him incredibly hotter than he already is.

Franco looks flawless in those Oscar promo shots. Definitely the hottest Oscar co-host ever.

I’m sure Anne will be fine as Selina Kyle but honestly, I think Marion Cotillard would have been even better. (But I’m sure her pregnancy took her out of the running).

Franco was on the Today Show the morning of the noms; maybe poetry class was afterwards.;-) He took a shot at the Social Network in an interview with Elvis Mitchell. Not very collegial or host-like.

He didn’t take a shot. He offered a level-headed assessment of the film (and the same take on it that Fincher offered recently). Just because he didn’t fawn over the narrative that’s been thrust out in front of the film doesn’t mean he “took a shot” at it.

I think it’s one thing for Fincher to comment on it and assess his own work product, quite another for Franco. That’s how I see it. If he did feel compelled to comment, he could have been more diplomatic. I’m from the old school, Kris, what can I say, lol.
