Gosh, ‘Social Network’ wins in Chicago

Trying to think of one interesting thing to say about these awards. One thing. Um. Nice, if not wildly original, foreign-language pick? (Memo to the National Society of Film Critics: we’re counting on you to be your usual rebellious selves come January.)

Right now it looks like a bunch of 5-way ties on the circuit…

Guessing, though, that “The Social Network” pulled another trifecta here.

Well the Derek Cianfrance honor was nice. But I think I fell into a coma when reading the rest of the list.

    Guy and Kris,

The winners’ tags are screwed up again starting at Chicago.

I’m starting to think at this point, Natalie Portman is taking home that Best Actress Oscar. She’s on a role taking a good amount of Best Actress wins so far.

Good job, Chicago! I think it’s also worth mentioning they gave Supporting Actress to Steinfeld, and Score to “Black Swan.”

^^ I hope so too. But let’s not forget that Sandra Bullock’s only critic mention was a nomination from WFCA.

The problem is all these minor critics groups (not the big 4- NSFC, NYFCC, LAFC, and NBR) all are so obviously voting for frontrunnes and trying to predict the Oscars. They should so away with these groups.

It’s called a consensus. “Social Network”, Firth, Portman, and Bale are clearly the ones people can most agree upon.

Yeah I think its all about timing and momentum, and right now Natalie Portman has everything going her way to take the Best Actress award. “Black Swan” is doing extremely well at the box-office and with all the awards she’s picking up, it seems to me she’s a sure bet. Annette Bening will win the Golden Globe, but my feeling is that this race isn’t between the two of them but Portman vs. Lawrence.

    Huzzah for my hometown!

Really hoped that John Hawkes might pull off a surprise win here, but oh well.

God. Is it bad that I’m still not bored with this domination, but rather enjoying every minute of it?

Guy, if the NSFC picks The Social Network as best film, you know that it’s because they think it’s the best film of the year, not because they’re unimaginative or anything. I’d rather they do that than choose another film just to be different.
