INTERVIEW: ‘The Town’ actor Jeremy Renner

Posted by · 8:41 am · November 24th, 2010

Warner Bros. has been looking for any and every opportunity to get Jeremy Renner and his well-liked supporting performance in Ben Affleck’s “The Town” out there as Oscar season begins to take hold. Yesterday he was making the press rounds just as screener copies of the film were hitting voters’ doorsteps.

The last time I saw Renner was on the C lot bus at the airport maybe a month after the Oscars put a bow on the long, rewarding haul of “The Hurt Locker.” He and that film’s co-star, Brian Geraghty, were coming back from some much-needed R&R and Renner told me at the time he was happily “unemployed.”

Of course, plenty has changed since then. He finds himself starring opposite Tom Cruise in the latest installment of a “Mission: Impossible” franchise that he may well take over, joining the giant ensemble of Marvel’s hugely ambitious cross-over film “The Avengers” and, of course, kicking up awards buzz once again for his work in “The Town.”

Check out my brief conversation with the actor below.  Yeah, I’m yet again lazily offering up the audio, but it’s nice to register Renner’s laid-back vibe.  You might have trouble hearing my questions because of the room noise but his answers are crystal.  (And in case you missed my sit-down with the film’s writer/director/star Ben Affleck, give that a read here.)

I like the audio, don’t dismiss posting it as lazy. Sometimes, readers will find an answer interesting that you may not have thought significant enough to write up and so on.

I still wish I knew what really put the new PTA film on hold. Last I heard, it actually made it to the rehearsal stage with Renner and Hoffman…but then it was shelved for some reason.

I’ve been wondering the same thing…what the hell? Hopefully it’s not a money issue. PTA’s films are brilliant enough that it shouldn’t matter if they don’t make big bank, producers should give him whatever he wants.

For some reason House of Pain fits right in with Jeremy Renner.

Great interview and the audio is a nice touch to listen to it instead of reading for a change. You get a feel for being there.

I have to admit, I found him solid but a bit overrated in “The Hurt Locker”, but he was excellent in “The Town”.

I actually love the audio. You get more of a sense of the interviewee than in a narrative or a transcript, and it’s easier for me to listen to than a video.
