Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine” has been very much in the conversation as of late due to an unfortunate NC-17 rating. The film saw it’s Los Angeles premiere this week as part of AFI Fest and still has well over a month before it opens. A trailer recently hit, conjuring a lovely and unique atmosphere, and today, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, we get a peek at the poster. Check out the full image after the jump.

Nice. Passion and misery combined.
But really, if people see this and the rating, they’ll be like “A love story? This is pure softcore porn!”

Wow, that poster makes the film look much racier than it actually is. I expect the reviews to be strong for this film and I won’t be surprised if Gosling and Williams get some critics’ prizes this season.

If the rating doesn’t change, that is. I think it will.

Beautiful. I really want to see this.
I have faith this could do well come awards season, with the Weisteins backing it and all!

Harvey Weinstein is totally milking that NC-17 rating, I see. Makes a grim relationship drama look blazing hot. Good for them.

It’s a little too dark, but I like it.

It looks gritty, grim, and sexy. Great.

Nice poster. Nothing wildly exciting, but I do like the handwritten text.

I saw Blue Valentine two months ago and that poster isn’t really representative of the film. I get where they’re going with the poster ( NC-17 must see alley sex event) but it’s a cheat.

I like the new poster, but I have to say I like the Pink sundance posters the best.

I’m kind of disappointed they’re not in the Future room. Maybe for the next poster?

The poster is more about flipping the bird at the MPAA than a glimpse of what the film’s all about. The story is more bitter sweet than grim and gritty.

I like the poster, even though it is a slight misrepresentation of the film. But it does raise a little curiosity towards the film, which is good.
And if this movie doesn’t make the best pic cut, I will definitely not watch, or even really care about the ceremonies or who wins. No exceptions.

Well the NC-17 has been embraced. Guess unsuspecting audience members who seek a new soft core experience in the theaters will be duped into playing for something that’s just a relationship drama about a marriage. Cool – I’m rooting for Michelle Williams’ first Best Actress nomination.

I’m looking forward to a HQ version, but this looks like it could be a great poster. Got the oozy feeling of something lurid. May not represent the movie, but as a poster it works.

Funny, it doesn’t look like it’s Williams and Gosling. Maybe that’s their stand-ins.
