10/1 OSCARWEB ROUND-UP: Harris on his career, McCarthy remembers Menke, King wants vampires done right

Posted by · 8:31 am · October 1st, 2010

Ed Harris opens up about his career (speaking of which, P.S.: I’m hearing a one-week qualifier for “The Way Back” may just happen after all). [MakingOf]

Stephen King: Do vampires right! [Entertainment Weekly]

Speaking of vampires, Steven Zeitchik sits down with “Let Me In” director Matt Reeves. [Los Angeles Times]

Scott Brown goes inside the making of “The Social Network.” [Wired]

Tom O’Neil rounds up thoughts on how the Academy might respond to the film.  I opted out because I have no idea.  I honestly think it could go either way. [Gold Derby]

Friar’s Club roast of Quentin Tarantino postponed in the wake of Sally Menke’s death. [Hollywood Reporter]

Todd McCarthy, meanwhile, remembers his friend. [Deep Focus]

That’d be awesome. A trailer wouldnt hurt either.

Now, about how The Social Network might be received, I assume by going either way I assume you mean that is the difference between a token nominee or a serious contender to win. With the reviews it has I find it hard to see the academy not giving the film at least one of the last few BP slots and a screenplay nom.

Also, I always figured The Way Back would get a small run this year after its response from the first couple of screenings, though actually I would perhaps slightly prefer it if they wait till next year. I always find the end of the year so crowded with films and it feels like I have to pass on a couple films I’m interested in, and this way it would be something to look forward to in the fairly quiet first months of the year.

Well nothing’s assured yet so maybe it’ll just hold on to the January release slot. But last I heard, things are looking up for a run. We’ll see.

Possible one-week qualifying run? Yes! I keep thinking/hoping that if released, Harris would get a supp. nom and possible win.
