BOX OFFICE: ‘The Town’ robs ‘Easy A,’ ‘Devil’ of the top spot

I figure I’ll offer up a chart and a space for you to discuss now that Chad has moved off the box office beat for us. And by the way, I’m just now realizing “Inception” is still in the top 10 (shows how much I pay attention).

I believe that means How to Train Your Dragon and Inception are the only movies this year to stay in the top ten for that long (10 straight weeks). At least it happened to two movies that deserved the money.

“Alpha and Omega” is exceedingly mediocre, easily the sloppiest animated movie of the year. No surprise that it flopped.

“Devil” is simply dull, which a horror picture should never be. Unlike the upcoming “Buried,” it’s claustrophobic in a not-good way.

“Easy A” is sublime, on par with “Mean Girls” as one of the best motion pictures about high school in the last decade.

“Freakonomics” is a small release and it’s just not very good. It’s episodic but flaky and you will leave the theater with more questions than answers.

“The Town” is solid if not overwhelming or even very original. It’s expertly crafted, however, a B-movie in A-list duds.

“The Virginity Hit” is a mix of “American Pie,” “The Blair Witch Project,” and, most notably, a big pile of crap. One of this year’s worst.

Kris, your team has a pretty good shot at the NFC East. Who would have thought?

They just gave up the lead, so I’m sad at the moment. But yeah, with Dallas going down, I’m feeling better than ok.

Really glad “Easy A” is doing pretty well. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m a big Emma Stone fan…she’s been on the verge of breaking out as a star for a while now, and hopefully this will be the movie that finally gets her noticed by the masses (even though casting groups have been aware of her talent for a while now).

I saw both Devil and Easy A so far this weekend and I had fun with both of them to varying degrees. Devil was entertaining but by no means revolutionary and Easy A was a surprisingly enjoyable little film. I am really excited about going to see The Town tonight as it is clear that a lot people really took to the film and I am curious to see how this stands up with Gone Baby Gone which I really quite enjoyed. I think the end of the year is really started to get a ton of good movies and I am glad to see the box office so healthy.

Easy A is not good, despite great work from Stone, Tucci, Clarkson and Church.

I saw “Easy A” this weekend and loved it. Emma Stone is going to be a huge star. I’m hoping the HFPA nominates her for this.

Oh, and I was also surprised by how affected I was by Lisa Kudrow in “Easy A”. She was excellent, especially in her final scene.

I enjoyed The Town a lot too, although my favorite film of the weekend was still Easy A. It has been a long time since I have gone to see three movies in one weekend (Devil on Friday, Easy A on Saturday, and The Town on Sunday) and even longer since I have seen three films in a row in theaters that mostly satisfied me to some degree. I hope the momentum can be kept up as we get into more horror films and then Oscar films.

I didn’t like “Easy A”. It was the not-your-average high school comedy that tried really hard not to be your average high school comedy.

Thanks Diablo Cody, now every parent in every teen/coming-of-age comedy is excruciating.

“The Town” was an excellent film, Ben Affleck is really impressing me as a director. “Easy A”, was a lot of fun and very entertaining.
