UK poster for ‘Winter’s Bone’

The British quad for “Winter’s Bone,” which finally bows in the UK on September 17, isn’t an especially distinguished bit of design — it’s certainly cruder than the American one-sheet and the tagline, though a pithy line in the film, doesn’t sit quite right. More interesting, however, is that it seems to have conceived as a veritable For Your Consideration ad for star Jennifer Lawrence: her lovely (and scrubbed-clean) face pushed to the foreground, with a critic’s quote that directly invokes Oscar recognition while emphasizing her impressive youth. It’s almost as if the marketers know how much BAFTA voters depend on Oscar buzz to guide them these days. Check out the poster (courtesy of Empire) after the cut.

Not as strong as the American poster for it.

    I liked the previous poster’s bleakness/darkness.

This one is too bright. I also find the ‘O’ in Bone incredibly distracting! Is that just me?

I think I’d be more distracted if the film was called “Winter’s Bne.”

Assuming Lawrence is hot, this poster would be more honest if “Bone” had an “r” at the end :p

It reminds me of when the Weinstein’s used a shot of Felicity Huffman from “Desperate Housewives” on the DVD cover of “TransAmerica”.

Will it be called “Winter’s Bon” when it’s released in France?

I hate these gigantic-person-superimposed-over-background posters. It looks like she’s about to eat all the trees! Or at least, huff and puff and blow them all down.

Why is nobody mentioning John Hawkes awesome performance in this movie. He really transformed. Great work. Guy’s got to get some consideration.

This has nothing on the original poster. They’re probably just marketing Jennifer Lawrence because most of the buzz has been about her, and they are hoping it will rub off on UK critics. Which it will, because she is so great in the film.

Just saying awardsdaily.com has a newer Love and Other Drugs trailer and it actually includes the illness and more. I personally prefer it to the first one.

Not sure if you’re a regular reader, Hackett, but we covered this ground last week:
