‘Love & Other Drugs’ trailer

Posted by · 1:11 pm · August 13th, 2010

Sure enough, not long after posting that Entertainment Tonight first look at Edward Zwick’s “Love & Other Drugs,” the trailer has launched via Apple.  I stand by what I said in the original post and may even been anticipating it a bit more now.  Check out the trailer by clicking on the image below or watch the embed on the jump.

(UPDATE: 8/17) A second trailer went up not long after this one, so I figured I’d just post it in here. It addresses the Parkinson’s plot point and, overall, makes the film feel a lot more weighty:

The trailer is incredible without giving away too much- especially the disease of Anne Hathaway’s character. The film looks very soulful.

I don’t even know what to think. Oscar-wise, can’t tell from that trailer. Enjoyment-wise, it looks pretty darn good, to me.

I think Jake Gyllenhaal is an overrated mediocre albeit lucky actor.

I’m sure Hathaway will overshadow him in the role just like he is overshadowed by everyone he acts against. I really do not understand the fascination with this limited talent.

Have you ever looked at him? ;-)

Yes, he’s nice looking but so what so are LOTS of other actors. Franco and Farrell are hotter imho (and better actors). He’s a mediocrity and incredibly overrated. I’ve seen him in quite a few films and he’s always very boring or very limited and he ALWAYS gets outacted by other actors he’s working with. His acting range seems to be from A to A-. The best thing he’s done was Brokeback Mountain and that’s only because he was working with a brilliant script, a great director and a great co-star. He’s a big yawn.

Looks fun and funny… Can’t tell if it will be up to snuff for the Academy, but from the looks of it, I won’t mind if it is.

I love the trailer, it makes me want to watch it now. This looks like a major crowd-pleaser.

Hathaway looks radiant and amazing, and I can see why she’s already getting Oscar buzz. I know it’s just a trailer, but she looks to be the scene-stealer. Granted, and not to be mean, but that’s not too hard to do when your scenes are with Gyllenhaal. Maybe he’ll surprise me.

Exactly, Tye. Actors working with Gyllenhaal must as well be working with a large cardboard cut-out.

Farrah, I hear Jake is good in this film- by people who are not fans of Gyllenhaal. We will see .

I couldn’t disagree with you more Farrah, Gyllenhaal remains (in my opinion) one of the most interesting young male actors out there. But to each his/her own.

If you’ve seen October Sky, Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain, or especially Jarhead, you’re a fool to think Gyllenhaal is a cardboard cutout. He’s not the greatest, but the guy has talent, lots of it.

Just watch the “this is my rifle” freakout scene in Jarhead. Unbelievable.

I think this looks like a really good movie, definitely worth seeing. But there’s stuff about it that doesn’t seem like it meshes with AMPAS tastes.

    (a) AMPAS is notoriously harsh on comedy. Only 1 has one in the past 20 years. It was a period piece with the Miramax machine.
    (b) I don’t know how the more raunchy stuff will play with older, more traditional voters.
    (c) Some of the movies it’s been compared to in test screenings underperformed compared to what people were predicting. Up in the Air was widely predicted to picked up Adapted Screenplay and it didn’t. People in general predicted success at the Oscars, and it was shut out in every category nominated. (Remember that EW had Clooney, Kendrick, and Farmiga on the cover). A couple mentioned (500) Days of Summer too, and some people wondered if that movie might pick up a screenplay nod, and it didn’t.

I’m not the biggest Zwick fan…his movies tend to be enjoyable but far from revelatory. That being said, this trailer actually looked pretty darn good. I’m a huge Hathaway fan, though, so that could be clouding my judgement…

It seems like a typical romantic comedy, I’m surprised by the Oscar talk.

This does look like great fun and a potential Golden Globe victory for Hathaway. (Even though Bening is more likely to get the Oscar nod, I can definitely see something more major like this garnering Anne a win; Jake only a nom, probably.) Not really Oscary, but who cares.

What I loved most is that it felt like a throwback to the ’90s rom-coms, back when they actually used to be good/great. Except this might surpass them all, perhaps.

I just wanted to announce that this filmed in Pittsburgh where I live, and I spent days hunting down Jake Gyllenhaal to no avail.

He was running while my uncle was at a stoplight and Jake ran past his car. True story.

Alsooo I think this trailer looks good not great.
