Stunningly stupid

FINAL UPDATE (5/11/10): JoBlo has now posted an apology letter from Tom Perkins, the accused.  It’s as dubious as you might expect but at least the whole thing has some closure.

UPDATE (5/9/10): You’ll notice that the video is now indicated as “private” and can’t be viewed.  But this guy got his comeuppance on the unforgiving internet, so it’s pretty much over.  This post does a good job of summarizing what went down.

EARLIER: First, read JoBlo’s review of “Iron Man 2.” Then, watch FilmXTRA’s virtually word-for-word plagiarized video review below, and tell me these guys shouldn’t be hung up by their short and curlies:

Apparently a good portion of it was also stolen from Den of Geek’s review.

By the way, my opinion: the film fails across the board. More in today’s Oscar Talk special, coming in a few hours.

Journalistic integrity is practically non-existent these days. And as I said on Twitter, I’m really bummed out that you hated Iron Man 2 so much. I thought it was 2 horus of awesome, despite a few pacing issues and a lack of the novelty of the first film. But other than a few minor nitpicks, I loved the hell out of it.

Integrity is one thing. Many little things feed into integrity. But this is MASSIVE ignorance, stupidity, brazen theft. Truly a bit surprising.

We’ll agree to disagree on IM2.

Yeah, plagarism is on a different level of bad than a lack of integrity, I totally agree on that.

Last thought on Iron Man 2 is that while yes, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on it, I am interested to hear your thoughts on it via Oscar Talk this evening. I’ll be writing up my own review tonight after I see it again, so it will at least be interesting to see how our reactions compare and contrast :)

Never in my life have I had a more painful experience watching a summer movie. This movie gave me a headache and I fell asleep for a few minutes. Nothing happens in this movie. The action is pointless. The characters’ motivations are those of cardboard cut-outs, and some characters are completely useless (Scarlett Johannson). There’s no point to the entire film; no theme; nothing to say. Never have I witness a summer action movie with just two action scenes and a whole lot of nothing else. Wow. Whoever wrote this movie needs to reconsider their profession. This was an embarrassment of the first order.

I saw this review a while back and immediately knew this guy was reading off someone elses review. And now I come here and Kris, you provide the proof. Hilarious! And completely stupid. What a moron.

Can’t wait for your thoughts on Iron Man 2, Kris. I thought it was a disaster, and can’t imagine how anyone could even give it a passing grade.

Wow. That is just unbelievable. He could have at least used a review from some obscure source–not JoBlo. Of course someone was going to figure it out. What a tool.

Yeah this “review” was pathetic, so blatant.

As for IM2. I’m going on Sat night and despite what I have heard, I am still looking forward to it.

Wow. That’s terrible. The big tip off to me would have been the way the guy says “badass”.

I don’t know what’s worse: reviewer Tom Perkins entirely plagiarizing his review from two others or Tom going on twitter and saying that he never did anything wrong.

you’d think if you’re going to plagiarize that you’d find some obscure blog to pull the verbatim review from, not a popular venue like JoBlo. Also, would it have killed the guy to changed some adjectives here and there?
