…it sure took long enough for the “Hurt Locker” smear campaign to get here, and boy is it robust.  More in tomorrow’s round-up (since relegating all of his silliness to a round-up is all it really deserves).

I’m still rooting for District 9…screw this Hurt Locker vs. Avatar crap! (As if “Hurt Locker” is really “the little guy”!)

I’m still rooting for Basterds, although Harvey’s “Look at our film in all it’s Jew-y pride” is complete bullshit. At the end of the day, the damn film has virtually nothing to do with the Holocaust.

So I look forward to seeing the emotional manipulation people are more than likely putting out there for HL.

Smear campaign? You mean HL producer trying to smear Avatar by sending the email to AMPAS members asking them to vote for HL and not for Avatar ($500 mio movie)? That was so low. He`s now sent an apology. Goldderby has the full story.

    Bastereds for the win!

Yeah, ninja, I think that’s the story. I just read Pete Hammond’s thingy at The Envelope. The producer’s juvenile writing skills were what I found particularly hilarious.

Yeah, he might be a bit of a greenhorn with all of this, but you wouldn’t think he was this big of an airhead to be so uncouth.

Good gravy Marie, this race is starting to play out like a motherfuckin’ soap opera.

So um, yeah. Basterds for the win, man. (Even if their campaign has also been less-than-savory…)

Screw all of the potential winners (really, its just going to be Hurt Locker) and give it to An Education of A Serious Man.

Read the email. Calling for members to snub Avatar leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The Hurt Locker is hardly a little film either.

I would be so cool with A Serious Man taking it, although there isn’t a snowball’s chanc in hell…

And the email’s just hilarious. How can you be so careless? I just don’t understand.

Weinstein tactics have never been savory but he never denied it. OTOH, Hurt Locker built this image of an indie movie that is sweeping awards left and right by its sheer brilliance and no campaigning involved. Well, guess this email bursts the bubble that was hard to believe in in the first place.

I`d take Weinstein`s open attacks and boistering anyday over sneakiness of this email. Not to mention that bastereds is a superior movie.

The Hurt Locker is hardly a good film either, imho. What was this guy even thinking when he sent that email? I don’t think The Hurt Locker should be disqualified or anything like that, but I do think that AMPAS should make some kind of public statement condemning this behavior so there is a record that if THL does actually win (which I pray it doesn’t) then it will be known that they did some stupid shit for no reason. I mean, I may not have liked this film very much and so what, I didn’t like Slumdog either. But why did he have to send that email when it was already pretty obvious that THL somehow became the frontrunner with all the critics and then guilds supporting it and the BAFTAs. There wasn’t any need for it, which is why I feel it is so stupid that he did that. I hope it causes it not to win and a film that did not need to send a desperate email like that actually does win.

Hurt Locker bashers are almost funny, now. You give them one little faux pas and they lose their shit over it.

After reading about all this hullabaloo before I read the actual email, I have to say I was a little disappointed when I read it in full. I didn’t strike me as that bad.

That`s what puzzles me too. Usually, a losing movie tries to smear the obvious winner. But in this case, obvious winner is smearing the losing movie. This is as embarrassing as Oscar ceremony organizers desperately trying to pre-empt ratings drop due to Hurt Locker`s inevitable win by getting all those Twilight and Disney stars aborad as presenters.
