Just to reiterate a point… no fim has ever won Best Picture without receiving the top prize from one of the top four guilds (writing, producing, acting, and directing) since all four have been established.

Avatar has officially lost at all four guilds.

And it doesn’t change what has already been in the water. THL has had this sewn up since the PGA proved how the film responds to the preferential ballot.

Joel and Ethan Coen can consider themselves criminally robbed.

I hope you mean at the Oscars, because that’s just sad otherwise…

The Hurt Locker will win Best Picture at the Oscars. Seems safe now.

Thus, I still don’t know if Basterds will take Original Screenplay or not.

Speaking English: It has been officially robbed for awhile now.

Alex: I hope you’re right. HL’s screenplay was very good, but I just don’t see how it’s better than IB’s…I just don’t. I’ve tried and tried, and nearly got an aneurysm in the process, and just don’t see it.

Why not just report the news without the tired remark, Kris?

Not only does it sound a bit unprofessional (even if this is a personal commentary/opinion blog), but a bit ungrateful and spoiled too coming from someone who gets to see movies for free, interview movie stars, directors, etc. and go to parties. Not to suggest that what you do doesn’t require a lot of hard work, long hours and can’t be boring and tedious too (any job, no matter what it is, is still a job in the end), but it’s not like you’re stuck behind a desk all day in some sterile office cubicle doing a job you absolutely loathe, or work in a coal mine.

Not that you need to make some in-depth analysis for every predictable and yawn-inducing event (like this) when any such thing is completely unnecessary, but maybe then just report the news and save the remarks because frankly, there are thousands of people out there who’d love to be in your position. Your life/job could be a hell of a lot worse.

It’s definitely The Hurt Locker’s game to lose, but I’m not convinced that it’s gonna win yet. IB will probably take BP since its appeal is a little more widespread, and is ultimately a very satisfying film in the end.

    @ aspect ratio

You have GOT to be kidding with that whiny crap. Move it along if you don’t like it. There’s nothing ungrateful about Kris’ comment, he’s probably echoing not only his own opinions in HIS blog but the sentiments of most oscar watchers.

I kinda love that exasperated comment there. It adds a touch of humor to another rung in, yes, a very long Oscar season.

And yeah, Coens were robbed, WGA was weird this year, etc, etc.

Part of the reason I like this site over others is because the guys who run this thing keep it real.

It’s still a job, aspect; lots of people who do this kind of shit need degrees to do it. It is work.

Although I will admit, I’d kill to have a job where I could write about film and interview directors and actors and whatnot.

aspect: Unbunch your panties. I’ll report the news however I see fit. Like it or don’t. Plus, there was a mini-analysis earlier in the day via the “WGA awards on the way” post. Why double up?

    Your comment is ridiculous.

When I saw this comment, it brought back memories of all those who said that they wouldn’t be able to do the award season on such a tight schedule when they moved the Oscars back to February in ’04. It also reminds me of having 10 Best Picture nominees. A few years from now, I doubt anyone will be able to imagine the category with just five nominees.
