‘Basterds’ art for Haiti

And you thought there was nothing charitable about “Inglourious Basterds.” Tomorrow, L.A.’s Upper Playground Gallery, in conjuction with The Weinstein Company, will be hosting an exhibition of alternative poster art for the film from a range of contemporary artists. The posters will be sold in aid of Red Cross Haiti drive.

With the noble stuff out the way, I can also add that some of the artwork is pretty damn cool. This one by Grotesk is my favorite; you can view the rest here.

Agreed that that’s the best one, though I also really dig the adult spanking the Nazi youth. That one’s pretty funny.

That eagle one is fucked up. The one with the man spanking the little Nazi Youth is my favorite.

Although over all, while these are good art pieces, most of the posters have virtually NOTHING to do with the movie. Most of it is just generic Nazi art.

Methinks some people got a little over-zealous with this project.

Yeah, I have no idea what is with the curb stomp image and its relation to the movie. And I would like to know who actually would display these in their home.

Yeah, and wasn’t the curb-stomping a scene from a DIFFERENT movie about a Nazi with a certain Edward Norton?

I have a pretty fucked-up, trippy room, so I’d put stuff like that up; maybe the less horrific ones….

Not bad art, but don’t really love any of them.

The best Basterds poster is by Tyler Stout: http://www.expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/108130/140554

Ibraheem Youssef also did some a cool Basterds poster and for other QT movies as well: http://ibraheemyoussef.com/catalog/index.php

I saw the Reservoir Dogs poster earlier this week, it’s actually the kind of poster that makes me think the movie is alot better than it really is…which I still think is Tarantino’s least effective work.
