Just surfing around You Tube, spent 3:36 with this. Some dude, not completely fluid, but the power of the track still shines through. One of the most amazing musical compositions ever.

Nyman has not had the Oscar recognition he deserves. The Piano didnt get a nomination. The scores for Gattaca, The End of the Affair and many others were amazing

Great pick! This is one of my all-time favourite film themes (and I still listen to it regularly).

If you haven’t heard the concerto Nyman made from his music for The Piano, amend the situation here:

Gattaca is a beautiful film. I agree with Matthew, very underrated. Jude Law’s performance is extraordinary, but the whole thing is just gorgeous.

Also, you can’t beat the awesomeness of when Hawke flings the contacts out of his eyes.

Loved Gattaca and found the music beautifully effective. That said, I find this rendition of the score does Nyman no favors. It mutes the strengths and highlights the weaknesses within Nyman’s “minimalistic” structure and harmonics, turning tension and emotion in the original orchestration as played over the images into something that now sounds clunky and noodling. The strengths of the original composition don’t or only barely shine through i.m.o. – except perhaps in our memories.
