    Nice video…

Although he forgot Baaria, Broken Embraces, A Prophet and The White Ribbon. He should have put those instead of Transformers II.

“A Prophet” doesn’t release theatrically in the U.S. until next year and I don’t know what the domestic distribution deal is on “Baaria” (if there is one), but I seriously doubt a 2009 summation video would include a little-seen Italian film that played in Venice.

The real question is: where the hell is “Bright Star?”

Yeah, where is Bright Star? Was it not bigger than Brothers Bloom and Tyson?

All year I’ve been saying the weakness of this crop has been overstated. That video changes my mind. We had some great films, but go back to one of his amazing videos for 2007 to see what we’re missing.

Also no “An Education”, “A Single Man”, “It’s Complicated”…

But my, was that an amazing video. Really great stuff.

I always love these! Thanks! I wish there was some Drag Me to Hell love though.

    Thanks for the post.
I did put A Serious Man and there was one shot of Drag Me to Hell near the end.
To make it easier to edit I picked 60 movies that were either popular or really great. Some of the smaller indies might have been left out but I tried to stick a few in there. Thanks for the nice comments.

I agree with you, Joey. These are always really well done. I also love the music they have. One year it was “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (The Swell Season), and last year it was “Hopippolla” by Sigur Ros, and now it’s “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire.

    Hey Zack –

Just curious… what software do you use to edit these? Is it the iMovie on the Mac?

    Louis-
I actually used Final Cut Express on the Mac. All the trailers are from Apple.com/Trailers

You also forgot to put in The Princess and the Frog. That’s a very popular film right there.

An Education, Bright Star and A single man were the biggest omissions.

  • 20 12-19-2009 at 9:44 am

    Zack said...

Those are four I should have put in.
I doubted Princess and the Frog when I collected the trailers and I only put in about 5 of the most popular indie movies. All good films though.

I think it was my computer connection but it felt really choppy video-wise and I feel that the song could be polished a little more. I love the song but I kind of feel like some of the video clips don’t mash well with “Wake Up.”

Can no one just, you know, watch and enjoy the video (or anything these days) without picking it to part? Jesus Christ.

Well Kris, you critique movies don’t you? I was just throwing in my two cents. Didn’t think I was being harsh, just noted that it needed a little polishing.

@StevenKane – I get what you mean but its not meant to be analyzed. I’m just a film buff who made it during my free time. It’s sole purpose is to provide 3 minutes of enjoyment.

Yeah I critique movies but this was just a fun collective assembled by a guy who wasn’t trying to offer up high art and, I don’t know, sue me if the fact that the instinct for some being to nit-pick it is slightly irritating.

I should’ve added this, but I thought that this was very, very good, especially since it seems to be your 1st one. It was a great song choice too. It fit perfectly, and it became very popular in the movieverse around March.

    Thanks.
You guys are much nicer then the people on First Showing who complain about it’s lack of foreign films and talk about how they think Transformers 2 wasn’t that bad a movie.

    Steven Kane said...

Well in that case I apologize. I do have a problem with over-analyzing even if it is my opinion. In any case for a film buff, and this coming from a film buff, well done.

    Rafael said...

Zack, talking about foreign films, which ones do you think would be worth mentioning?

  • 38 12-19-2009 at 4:37 pm

    Zack said...

I’m not a big foreign film fan. I didn’t include those because most have subtitles for a majority of the trailer. Un Prophete I would have included but it’s considered early 2010.

@Shelby: I was looking for a shot of District 9 myself, but there is a very brief one at 2:43 of a helicopter’s sideview of the mother ship right before they cut in. There may have been other clips but I don’t remember.

Great, great video, Zack. A decent and very unique year for movies, methinks.
