Would love to see Giamatti steal the film. Mirren appears flawless, as usual.

Too bad that it seems like a loaded year for Actors. McAvoy will probably get overlooked… again. Oh well. He’ll be nominated someday.

McAvoy would make a wonderful Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

Wow, looks different than I expected. I was dreading another automatic Mirren nomination because I figured it would be a safe performance… instead looks pretty dynamic, as does the rest of the cast.

Fingers crossed for McAvoy as Bilbo (Oscar nomination in the wings).

McAvoy will be passed over again. Mirren gets in & Plummer for the WIN!

The trailer makes it seem like a much lighter tone than I was expecting.

I wasn’t convinced of Mirren’s chances till I saw this trailer, but that was before I knew she gets to angrily smash a plate. That pretty much has to guarantee an oscar nod at the very least.

Yeah, I’d say Giamatti looks the best here. Mirren looks like she’s trying too hard, Plummer looks too jolly and lacks real presence. And McAvoy doesn’t intrique me either.

I don’t know, something just doesn’t click for me and I dare say the trailer (especially the first half) is rather poorly edited.

    Looks dreary as all get-out.

What are others seeing that I’m not?

    leonardo,
The Sony Pictures Classic website has the date as Dec. 4 for a one week only run in LA and NY, with a regular release of Jan. 15, but again only in LA and NY.

I’d rather see the version with Meryl Streep and Anthony Hopkins.

I hope the Academy doesn’t allow the category fraud in the case of Plummer. Is very clear that he is the leading role, just like Mirren, never a supporting one. Put him in the supporting category is just absurd.

Wow. That looks great. Mirren looks amazing, and so does Plummer.
