Roger Corman, Lauren Bacall and Gordon Willis show off the Oscars they received at last night’s Governors’ Awards. (The fourth honoree, John Calley, could not attend.) More pictures and video footage of the presentations are at the official AMPAS site here.

(On a side note, one pic on the Academy site is captioned “Honorary award recipient Lauren Bacall and fashion designer Tom Ford.” Given that they’re likely going to be nominating Ford’s debut film in at least one or two categories come January, might they not do him the courtesy of adding ‘director’ to his description?)

I like to imagine Peter O’Toole went to bed thinking “You know, maybe it IS as good as the real thing.” Then he woke up and saw a picture of the director of “Teenage Caveman” holding one, and thought “Ah, fuck ’em.”

When this new way of doing these honorary awards were announced there was a lot of people who were against it, and I agree that it is a shame for us geeks that we won’t see these awards and have to do with clips, but I still think that this is a great, great way to do it. The recepients are in the spotlight and not just a part of a big show. It’s their night. And now Corman finally has that Oscar that I have wanted him to get for so many years :D

Come on. They didn’t get enough respect. 10 minutes for each one of them? And the presenters read from cards?! That’s absurd.
