Idle trivia for a Saturday morning

Henry Fonda. Alan Arkin. Jack Palance. And, strictly hypothetically, Jeff Bridges.

What am I listing here? Bragging rights and an imaginary cookie for the first correct answer.

Seriously? Are you assuming with Kris that Jeff Bridges will win on his third time nominated after two previous nominations? HE HAS TO GET NOMINATED FIRST.

Longest period between first nomination and finally winning Oscar.

Edward: What does the word “hypothetically” mean to you?

Anyway, wrong answer. (It would be Bridges’ fifth nomination, for one thing.)

Congratulations, Alex. The imaginary cookie is yours. (Or, if you happen to be near my house, come collect a real one. I’m baking.)

    Edward Douglas,

Jeff Bridges has been nominated 4 times, (The contender, Starman, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and The Last Picture Show). And his most admired character (the Dude) was criminally overlooked.

If there’s anybody the academy would really want to award, it would be this guy. If he misses out this year, he’ll be back in the running next year.

That’d be a much longer list, Bill.

Each actor winning a ‘pity’ Oscar. Each actor, though legendary and brilliant in their own rights each won Oscars, later in life, for lesser roles. Fonda for ‘On Golden Pond’, Arkin for ‘Little Miss Sunshine’, Palance for ‘City Slickers’ and Bridges, hypothetically, for something yet to come.

    That’s my guess.

I know I didn’t guess in time, but now I really want a cookie, like a real one.

Also, I really really hope Jeff Bridges gets nominated, he is such a bad-ass actor who I admire so much and I would be thrilled more than anything if he gets nominated/wins. I like Colin Firth too, but Jeff Bridges is the dude!

This is just my opinion but I do not believe Jeff Bridges would win best actor for True Gritt because I don’t think the Academy would give best actor to a character that has already won.
