Stiller/Downey turn down tandem Oscar hosting gig

Posted by · 10:25 am · November 3rd, 2009

Or at least that’s what Nikki Finke is reporting.  Roger Ebert quips, “They have Lakers tickets.”  The search continues on.  Steve Martin and Tina Fey are not available.  Hugh Jackman has graciously declined being pigeonholed.

Who’s gonna step up?  Out-of-the-box pick of the day: Richard Kind.

EDITED TO ADD: This just hit me, but it makes sense that Downey would decline this offer.  After all, he turned down the chance to present the post-production awards alongside Will Smith last year out of fear of being upstaged.

Give it to Streep as I suggested weeks ago. Or Clooney (I don’t think he has had enough exposure yet). What about Will Smith? I dislike him but the Stepin Fetchit routine goes far with middle america.

    Stiller!? Yikes.

Richard Kind would be great. He was hilarious on Curb as usual last Sunday.

I bet they are going to end up getting one of the previous hosts. I hope not but it might come to that.

Mr. Stiller, thank you for turning it down.

That said, I’m glad that it seems like they’re reaching out to first-timers and sort of out-of-box choices. I really hope they don’t go back to someone who’s already hosted the Oscars (unless that person’s name is Ellen DeGeneres).

Honestly, I can see them giving it to Timberlake. And honestly, I can see him doing a good job.

Also, because of the musical preferences of the producer, has Jack Black been talked about?

Omg. Robert Downey hosting would improve my life so much..

That being said, I would be happy with Spacey or Clooney. And I actually really liked Jon Stewart.

Clooney really isn’t an option as there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be a nominee and that a film of his will be up for several major awards.

Hey Loyal, a Stepin Fetchit routine? Give me a break.Just because Will Smith is well-liked;he’s Stepin Fetchit? I think that Will Smith is who he is-a nice,easy-going,well-mannered man.

What do you want him to do? Grab on his crouch every ten seconds? End each sentence that he says with “You no what I’m saying.”

Or do you want him to walk around with a gold-platted grill in his mouth? Will he be black enough then if he did this asinine things?
