‘A Single Man’ trailer

Posted by · 4:30 am · September 12th, 2009

The more I think about Tom Ford’s debut feature “A Single Man” (not to be confused with “A Serious Man” — keep up!), which unspooled yesterday to a very warm Venice reception, the more I like it. I wrote my review on the fly, so I’m not sure if my full admiration for the film’s extraordinary craft and marvelous Colin Firth performance came through, but this is a special piece of work.

Thanks to diligent reader Tim for digging up the trailer, which captures the film’s woozy, moody beauty perfectly.

Looks great. I’d love to see it right now. Nice cast, too.

This is great news. I had forgotten this was even being made into a movie. Is there a release date in the United States? When I went on Imdb, I got nothing.

I made my ealier comment before watching the trailer. It’s strange that they’ve made it look like a foreign movie (which doesn’t dare have any dialogue in the trailer, because the unwashed masses will realize they have to read subtitles). Why not sell the movie on its witty dialogue? My god, you’ve got great actors and Christopher Isherwood’s language. But then again, that has to be the most physically attractive cast I’ve ever seen in one movie, so maybe focusing on visuals was a smart idea.

When i see the trailer it reminds me of that for Almodovar’s “Broken embraces”: the mysterious music, the unusual perspective of the shot, the lack of dialogue. From what i’ve read it’s got nothing to do with the concept of “Embraces”.
Anyway, congratulations to Mr Ford and everyone involved. Good for them!

Has a great tone to it the music the way the images move. This and Lebanon both look really interesting to me.

Yay, picked up. By Weinsteins. What I suppose will be pushed:

Nine, All inc Actor, Actress, Sup Actress, Screenplay, Edit, Pic, Director
    Inglorious, Sup Actor
    The Road, Actor
A Single Man, Actor & Sup Actress

& one of the non-Nine pics for a Best Picture nom, depending on mainstream reception. Although that makes it three lead actors who have strong turns. At least they don’t seem to have to worry about who to push for Sup Actor.
