No fanfare. A legitimate installment of The Lists on another topic will drop from Chad later today, but here’s what has me stoked:
1. “Up in the Air” (Paramount Pictures)
2. “Avatar” (20th Century Fox)
3. “The Tree of Life” (Apparition)
4. “Where the Wild Things Are” (Warner Bros. Pictures)
5. “A Christmas Carol” (Walt Disney Pictures)
6. “Invictus” (Warner Bros. Pictures)
7. “Capitalism: A Love Story” (Overture Films)
8. “2012” (Sony Pictures) –> guilty
9. “Precious” (Lionsgate)
10. “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” (Sony Pictures Classics)
You?

Where the Wild Things Are leads it for me by a country mile, but I’m a big Reitman fan, so I can’t disagree with your top choice in the slightest. I’ll say Precious, An Education and Invictus round out my top five.

Avatar – Not only my most anticipated for this fall, but my most anticipated ever since I heard they were working on it. Watched the preview, was genuinely impressed, so now I have a real reason to look forward to it.
Surrogates – Because I like sci-fi, though I’m not expecting it to be great.
A Serious Man – Because I’m hoping the Coens would redeem themselves after Burn After Reading, and because I liked the trailer.
2012 – Because of the awesome destruction and CGI.
Nine – I hate musicals but I love Day-Lewis.
Sherlock Holmes – Looks like a lot of fun, and I have a thing for 1800s London.
Up in the Air – Don’t care about Reitman but I like Clooney, the premise and, hell, even the posters.
Tree of Life – Malick can be so seductive.
The Invention of Lying – Love Ricky, trailer was underwhelming though.
Law-Abiding Citizen – Come on, how can I not list it here after that terrific trailer with the cheesy lines and elaborate deaths and Gerard’s pathetic attempt at an American accent and the whole “we’re gonna put the whole system on trial” and “blah blah blah of biblical proportions” crap… I’m sold!
New York, I Love You – Because I love New York. Too bad that, according to the trailer, the city only has white people.
Amelia – Trailer cliched as hell, and female directors bore me to death, but can’t resist the charms of The Gere and that whole period in American history.
Men Who Stare at Goats – Clooney, again. Plus a terrific cast.

5. “An Education” (To see the Mulligan hype)
6. “Nine” (Star power)
7. “The Tree of Life” (Malick & Penn – enough said)
8. “Avatar” (The trailer made me interested, plus it’s James Cameron)
9. “The White Ribbon” (Looks to be the Foreign Film Winner right now)

Politique des auteurs-style, I definitely won’t miss the Coen’s A SERIOUS MAN, Wes Anderson’s FANTASTIC MR. FOX, Spike Jonze’s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, Soderbergh’s THE INFORMANT!, Zemeckis’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Peter Jackson’s THE LOVELY BONES and of course, Cameron’s AVATAR.
Potential guilty pleasures: WHIP IT, NINJA ASSASSIN…
Oh, and Malick’s TREE OF LIFE, though I doubt it’ll open around my parts before year’s end…

Aleksis – If the Tree of Life turns out to be the second coming of The New World…then I’m permanently off the Malick bandwagon. In fact, I must be a masochist to even present him the opportunity to fuck me over again like he did with The New World. I used to love nature before that film. Now I just want to burn, or chop down every tree I see.

The New World was almost a masterpiece but got boring when people starting talking and stuff.
Q’orianka Kilcher should have burned/chopped down the Best Actress field that year – not a single notice (I believe). One of the best perfs of the decade imo imho.
