‘Avatar’ fail

Posted by · 7:56 am · August 19th, 2009

In the ole’ inbox from 20th Century Fox this morning:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to overwhelming demand to see the special scenes from James Cameron’s epic motion picture AVATAR, our AVATARMOVIES.COM RSVP site experienced technical difficulties. As a result of the crash you must re-select a screening time. Please note you may not get the original time you selected. Also new ticket confirmations that will be generated by your selection here will be the only accepted form of admittance.

Get it together, guys.  And it’s AVATARMOVIE.COM, by the way.  Oh, and when you go back to the site, you’re greeted with this:

The tickets for the special screening of James Cameron’s Avatar are SOLD OUT. Avatar opens worldwide on December 18.

Dude Kris, that sucks. I know they were having all sorts of trouble that day. It was posted all over facebook. I was really fortunate to get my passes without a hitch. But, I’d probably be baby punching if I had gotten that.

I got my passes and a confirmation email, too. So this is just beyond silly at this point. I’m not totally bummed or anything, just kind of curious to see the hordes. It won’t be anything they didn’t show at Comic-Con after all. But it obviously sucks for a lot of people.

Wow Kris, that really sucks. They should have beefed up their servers or something because they had to know the demand was high.

I know for 1 hour, I kept putting my info in but it would randomly refresh the page back to the theaters in New York, right before I hit the refresh button.

Also, have they ever heard of a busy cursor, I know they used AJAX but why not let the users know the page was doing something.

I reserved a total of 16 tickets yesterday for myself and friends before the crash and have not received a single email.

But following the crash, I reserved a pair of tickets for a relative and did receive that email.

I do believe those emails are for all post-crash reservations.

Shit, that didn’t happen to me. That fucking thing was a fiasco, I’m surprised I actually got in on it.

Actually I just got the same email, but the same time I selected early was still an option, so I think i am in…

FYI, those emails are only for those who rsvp’d after the crash.

I was able to rsvp 8 sets of passes without issue and did not receive a reconfirmation request.

I then rsvp’d after the crash and did receive a reconfirmation at 4 AM this morning.

There is also no way to reject the RSVP. Something came up and I will be unable to attend my screening. There go 2 seats
