‘Up in the Air’ poster

(You’re probably wondering why this post is gone.  Well Paramount has asked us to remove the image and I see Empire, which had the original exclusive, has done the same.  My best guess is it wasn’t final artwork.)

This is a poster, Req. Not a movie. If we judged Oscar chances based on posters, Juno probably would be an afterthought.

Any word on when specifically this is going to be released?

Stop reminding me that Reitman made Juno. It still hurts.

This reminds me of Russel Crowe’s A Good Year, an A+ movie star, doing a perfectly fine comedy with an Oscar winning director. Translation: no nomination for anyone involved. But look where the movie puts the leading actress in future–an Oscar win. I’m talking about Marion Cotillard.

Have you read the book? Have you seen a trailer? Do you know anything about the project other than the cast, crew and a look at the poster?

Jesus, the desire to make or break a film’s Oscar potential based on NOTHING these days is staggering even to me.

If there’s an interest in things beyond speculation, as I’ve reported, the film is being compared to Alexander Payne’s work.

“the film is being compared to Alexander Payne’s work.”

Using the novel as my guide, that sounds altogether plausible.

Hmm, I hate Sideways & find Election not as good as others find it. Though…I kind of love Juno.

I like the “arriving soon” and the way they hang the title.

I actually kind of like the poster, and I’ve read the book. From the plot synopses I’ve heard, it’s moving away from the overall plot of the book, but that’s fine. I hope they get the same spirit of the book. Being compared to Alexander Payne sounds about right, although I have never been a big fan of his (minus About Schmidt, I love that movie.) I have enjoyed both of Reitman’s films. Juno I enjoy less so over time, but that’s mostly Diablo Cody’s prattling screenplay that I become annoyed by, not Reitman’s direction. That was solid.

This project sounds very intriguing to me and anyone convinced that a movie starring George Clooney being released in the Fall doesn’t have any Oscar prospects whatsoever is crazy.
