Solid sci-fi rears its head yet again in 2009

I’ve got to eat before I pass out, but a quick iPhone post is quite necessary in the wake of “District 9,” an amazing effort that sits alongside Duncan Jones’s “Moon,” J.J. Abrams’s “Star Trek” and, hopefully (though today’s footage was a great start) James Cameron’s “Avatar” as part of a damn fine year for sci-fi cinema. And truly, a star is born in the film’s brilliant young fresh-out-of-the-gate lead actor.

More later. Food now.

Wow, that sure is a great notion. There’s too little sci-fi as it is but 4 home runs within a year is awesome!

“Moon” and “Star Trek” are not “home runs” OR “great films” — tap the breaks.

Why do you have “home runs” in quotes, Chase? I never wrote those words. In any case, to each his own obviously, but I think both are marvelous and a nice indication of studio and non-studio sci-fi success stories this year.

I wonder what next year will be.
2008 was the superhero year, 2009 the sci-fi (or “syfy”) year.
