‘Creation’ trailer

Posted by · 1:13 am · June 12th, 2009

I’m not quite sure why it fell to the Telegraph to unveil this trailer for Jon Amiel’s Darwin biopic “Creation,” starring real-life couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly, but so it has. Take that as a measure of excitement elsewhere, if you will. Anyway, some have had awards expectations of this — I can’t say I have, and this creaky 100 seconds does little to change that.

Amiel’s glory days of “Queen of Hearts” and TV’s “The Singing Detective” are long behind him. His last feature was 2003’s “The Core,” a film so appalling it sent him scuttling back to the small screen — where, coincidentally or not, this film looks to belong. (By the way, what’s up with the wholesale lifting of the beach cartwheel shot from “The Piano?” Ms. Campion, call your lawyer.)

This is just an early sneak peek of the trailer. It hasn’t been released anywhere else yet. However, because the subject matter is so controversial I believe this movie will get alot of attention. And the performances and visuals look wonderful, to me.

I guess we’re looking at nominations for JConn and Bettany. He plays an icon, she plays the long-suffering wife AND she sports an English accent (not to mention there’s room outside Mo’Nique, Judi Dench and Patty Clarkson in the supp actress category)

You are so right about the cartwheel shot. She’s even wearing a similar white jumpsuity thing. JC’s styling also reminded me of Ada. I guess there are worse places to go for inspiration than The Piano though.

Funny but I never once thought of the Piano while watching this trailer and it looks amazing.
