‘Rescue Me’ is on fire this season

Anyone watching this?  Best season yet.  Leary’s monologue at the end of this clip (from last night’s episode) is an Emmy clip if I ever saw one:

I don’t agree. I thought the season’s before the last one were great. Last season was up and down and this year is good and getting better but not as great as the first few years.
The problem I have is the character arcs aren’t as good as the first few seasons. The character with the cancer this year is the best thing they have done so far. His arc hooked me. They need to go back to individual stories. Im actually surprised there doing the 9/11 thing again as if was covered in season one. Why repeat it?

Eh, for me that scene was too theatrical, too self-conscious. It was like watching an acting workshop.

I have to disagree with you there alynch, the theatricality of it was what made me love it! I think the tone was just perfect, it was just theatrical enough. Rescue Me is full of these surreal moments that really, for me at least, pack an emotionally relevant punch because they are somewhat grounded in reality (did that make sense?). I love this show and I’m really hoping it gets some Emmy love this season.

What R.J. said. I think the writers know what they’re doing when they write something as seemingly over-the-top as that. It’s quite daring in the face of “accepted” high end drama television.
