Tom Hanks on SNL

One of the stories we linked to in this morning’s round-up was a Noah Forrest riff bemoaning the complacency of Tom Hanks in his recent work.  While that might be a valid point, I still have a soft spot for things like this because Hanks is a natural.  It also helps that the “Jeopardy” sketch has always been one of my favorites and made for a nice 90s blast from the past on Saturday night’s Will Ferrell-hosted season finale.

I think Tom Hanks’ biggest problem is Ron Howard. Even in disappointing fare like Ladykillers, The Terminal or Charlie Wilson, Hanks delivers. Those damn Dan Brown movies offer him nothing but a paycheck.

curses and drat! I can’t watch the video in Brazil.

Actually, Tom Hanks was pretty good in Apollo 13, I think the problem might be Dan Brown instead of Ron Howard (who also sucks incredibly when he does these Langdon movies).

I love the Celebrity Jeopardy skits. Takes me back to the good ol’ days of SNL. Hanks was funny, here.

Also, I LOVED seeing Norm MacDonald come out of nowhere as Burt Reynolds, and disappearing again. Awesome.

I wish NBC/Universal would release of Best of SNL DVD featuring just the Jeopardy sketches. I would buy it in a heartbeat and I think others would too.
