From this morning’s Telegraph (among other sources):

Jamie Foxx, the African-American actor, singer and comedian, has been named as a potential contender for the role of Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese’s biopic of the entertainer.

Foxx, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray, reportedly considered to be “perfect” for the role. If he is chosen for the part, it will be one of the most prominent examples of “colour-blind” casting in Hollywood history. Also in the running are George Clooney, Leonardo di Caprio, Harry Connick Jnr and Justin Timberlake.

They forgot to mention Dakota Fanning.

Wow, I wasn’t aware that this had actually gone out to more reputable sources other than the IMDb article I wrote about on my blog. Absolutely absurd.

Reputable? The Telegraph just quotes what the Daily Express wrote. I wouldnt consider the Express to be reputable.

I’m surprised the Daily Express actually had time to make stuff like this up. They are normally too busy making up endless false headlines about the McCanns and Princess Diana.

I would buy Jim Carrey or George Clooney in the role of Frank Sinatra – both of them are brilliant when they act, less so when they coast along on their established screen personae.

I keep thinking of Ewan McGregor for some reason. No resemblance at all, but something in the demeanour.

In the words of Adrian Monk, “Let me explain something to you:……….nooooo.”

And in the words of Adrian Monk again, “No–no–no–not–no–not–noooooo–no–no–he’s–no.”

And in the words of Adrian Monk for a third time, “This would be a bad, bad, bad idea…bad, bad, bad, baaaaaad, bad, bad.”

And in the words of Jim Carrey’s Grinch, “Holiday Whobie Whatie?”

    Richard: Um, no.

It was a throwaway line. Not sure what you’re getting at.

IMDB had this up too. Idiotic. I still think DiCaprio is the best choice. Otherwise Chris Pine? * hides*

    Both would be fine choices.

I can’t claim this idea as my own — someone just suggested it to me in conversation — but if they’re focusing on young Sinatra, James McAvoy would be terrific.
