Kidman out

Quelle dommage. It appears that Nicole Kidman has dropped out of Woody Allen’s untitled 2010 project. No explanation has been offered.

It’s hard to say how great a loss this is — with details on the film so sketchy at this point, we have no idea whether we’re talking about the actress ditching a major role or one of those starry cameos he occasionally sprinkles through his ensemble pieces. I’m disappointed nonetheless; Allen would have been a nice name to check off on the actress’s enviable auteur roster.

I’d suggest the obvious replacement of Naomi Watts, but — oh, wait — she’s already in it. Is Cate Blanchett free?

This can be great. Because with Nicole, we never know what can happen. And Cate is in Robin Hood, so I would love that Kate Winslet was available.

Kate Winslet in a Woody Allen film. That I’d love to see.

You almost got your wish with “Match Point,” Eunice. Though I personally think Scarlett Johansson was a better choice for that role.

What a shame. This could have been amazing. Just as long as she leave the project just to make another movie like “Bewitched” them I’m happy for her.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman as interchangeable. I know they flip-flopped over “The Reader,” but could they be any more different?

I was really looking forward to seeing Nicole in this film, so whether they get Kate Winslet to be in it or not doesn’t really matter to me. I’ll definitely still see the film (the cast is still very impressive), but it just sucks that Kidman won’t be in it.

Apparently she dropped out because it was going to be shot at the same time as “The Rabbit Hole.” Here’s the link to the story.

Truer words were never spoken, Guy!

What about Uma Thurman? Statuesque beauty and she can handle comedy when it’s not broad – both similar traits to Kidman. Also, I just want to see Uma on the screen again in something auteurish and, ya know, good.

I did not know that about “Match Point”, Guy, but I agree with you on the Johansson point. She was the right person for the role. And yes, Judy Davis needs to be put back on the map.

As for Kidman’s replacement, if not Kate Winslet, then I’d go with Alex and nominate Charlize Theron.

Naomi Watts is already in the film, there is no need for another big name. Kate Winslet would be a big turn off IMO.
