New ‘Public Enemies’ trailer

Posted by · 12:52 pm · April 9th, 2009

Last month the first materials for Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies,” starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, finally hit the net.  At the time I thought the trailer (and certainly the poster) had something of a sheen to it, a high-gloss studio vibe that didn’t say “Mann” to me.

Well this new trailer is a bit more slap-dash, less contrived and starts to dig into the characters with a little more grit.  It seems to be more of a trademark Mann construction to me, and I just love the eerie opening moments with the strings.

(I believe MSN had the exclusive on this, so I’ll link there.)

Great trailer. Even more pumped after seeing this. Using that amazing music from Terrence Blanchard’s 25th Hour score was a classy move.

Is that what that was? I didn’t recognize it out of context and still can’t place it but that was one of my favorite scores that year.

Wonderful. I like it even more than the first trailer. And yeah, that score was really great.

I don’t think that is Blanchard’s score. I just listened through my copy of the soundtrack and couldn’t find the cue.

Actually, I’ve tracked it down. The song is “Black Heart” by Calexico.

Yeah, I thought that was from 25th Hour too.

I was initially indifferent about this film, and the subject matter looks trite, but I like what I have seen from Depp so far.

Scratch that. Kris, you are right that the song in the beginning is from Calexico. The song in the last thirty seconds is what we are referring to. That is undoubtedly from 25th Hour.

I saw the film a couple of weeks ago and it’s really a truly masterful movie.

Depp in command, Cotillard steady, Bale a bit off.

Yeah, that’s totally it. I was hung up on that first track and never watched it all the way through again, ha.
